Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
This was something l loved, wish Spyderco never discontinued this setup,
Clip was reversible 1, 2, 3 no tools required. Just a Coin was needed.
Don’t personally like dealing with tiny screws.

Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I have two problems with the barrel bolt clips.
1) Tip up only. Not a deal-breaker by itself, but a strike against the knife to me.
2) I've seen the recess in the FRN get wallowed out to the point where the clip is no longer stable. I seem to recall someone having one get to the point where the clip would actually rotate.
Aside from that, I like it.

Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I'm a fan. I've never had an issue with those bolts working themselves loose like the smaller screws seem to do when not given loc-tite. Never loc-tited a barrel bolt - never needed to.
Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I like the barrel bolts, too. They’re a natural for linerless knives like my gen 1 Pacific Salt. Since I prefer tip-up, the lack of tip-down doesn’t bother me.

Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I do like the design but I have also been lucky and not has any problems with it.
Its probably the only flaw with the design. Maybe if there was a metal plate in the frn or something to prevent the frn from getting damaged the problem could be avoided??? Not sure.
I saw someones pac salt 1 after they caught the clip hard on something they were walking past. It messed up the frn pretty bad. All they could do was switch the clip to the other side.yablanowitz wrote: ...

An Endura from the 1990s is the only model I have with this clip attachment system. The clip would work its way loose if I didn't tighten the screw every few weeks. I didn't know about Loctite back then, so maybe that would have solve the problem.
The tiny screws on the present models are sometimes difficult to work with, especially for older hands like mine, but I rarely have to adjust them anyway.

Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I like them, they're great. The upgraded ergos of the next generations, along with the additional carry options, seem worthwhile though.
Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I like them. No little screws to keep track of if you decide to take the clip off.
Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I love it. It was a design element of my first Spyderco that seemed so ingenious. I think the current clips that incorporate the lanyard hole inside them are a fair modern improvement.

Not a fan, personally.

I love the barrel nut clip holder. I also love the Gen 3 handle style.

The Atlantic Salt still uses this clip attachment method, no?
Are there any other models still in production using it?

100%. One of the things I love about the OG Pac Salt vs the new one.

Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I have to mess up the coating to get them unscrewed the first time, so I must be doing something wrong. For me, at least, a coin usually won't do the trick. As far as I know, there are no aftermarket replacements, if such are desired. Other than that, they're fine. Since the Salt Series tends to be beaters, none of this really matters, but if I had to pick, I'd take the 3-screw clip.
Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I've had mine wear out on a spyderhawk. If they reinforced it I wouldn't mind it as much.
Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I really like them and wished they were used more, especially on real user knives like the salt series.
Re: Anyone else prefer Barrel Nut Clip Holder
I too, wish it would’ve stayed on the salt knives, specifically the pacific salt. My personal favorite.
