Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
If there is a cutting job that a Manix 2 isn't beefy enough for, I'll let someone else do it.
Regarding which line is next to get the steel, put me down for guessing Para 3.

Para 3 is a good assumption, I could also see the native getting the next run in the steel.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 4:39 pmIf there is a cutting job that a Manix 2 isn't beefy enough for, I'll let someone else do it.

Wonder how many dealer exclusive orders they received over the last month for various knives with this steel. Seems to be a winner and dealers will want to cash in too.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
I was thinking the same two, Para 3 or Native. We'll see.
Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
As excited as I am to see the steel in other Golden models as well, particularly a PM2, I'm not looking forward to the clusterf*#$ of trying to order one again like how it was with the ManixUnluckycharm wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:49 pmPara 3 is a good assumption, I could also see the native getting the next run in the steel.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 4:39 pmIf there is a cutting job that a Manix 2 isn't beefy enough for, I'll let someone else do it.

I’m all in for a para 3. I think since I have this one I’ll pass on all others. Well maybe if they do a chief or shaman I’d be back in lol.Guts wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 1:38 pmAs excited as I am to see the steel in other Golden models as well, particularly a PM2, I'm not looking forward to the clusterf*#$ of trying to order one again like how it was with the ManixUnluckycharm wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:49 pmPara 3 is a good assumption, I could also see the native getting the next run in the steel.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 4:39 pmIf there is a cutting job that a Manix 2 isn't beefy enough for, I'll let someone else do it.

Think of how slicey a chief would be with this steel. Absolute scalpel! Would love one.Mrj wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 1:56 pmI’m all in for a para 3. Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
I’m back in for a PM2 or Native sprint/exclusive; Para 3 won’t fit my hand right. How about a Lil’ Native backlock? I live close enough to a restrictive major city to value sub 2.5” blades more than the 3.75”-4” stuff.
Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
I'd love a lil' native back lock in 15V. A small knife I can throw into a watch pocket is the most useful for me. A native 5 would also be good. I'd consider buying a PM2 but the para 3 has turned me off of the series to some degree.
Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
Is this sprint run in Europe?
I cant see him.

Color Metallography of CPM 15V
I made this micrograph
this is what the structure of the Spyderco 15V looks like at a microscopic level. The circular "blobs" are significantly harder than the surrounding matrix, they are also responsible for increasing the slicing edge retention.
These "blobs" are called carbides, these ones in particular are all vanadium carbides which are the hardest commonly available in knife steel.
The largest ones range from 3 to 4 microns, that's under half the size of a human red blood cell.
These carbides make up 23% of the steel matrix.
Compared to 17% in 10V and 8% in 4V. This increases resistance resistance to wear at the edge and can increase strength.
I'm excited that you guys are going to get more Spyderco CPM 15V. It was really fun getting you guys this Heat Treatment.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
Sal, Thank you.
Words can't express how grateful I am that You, Eric, Gail and the Spyderco crew took on this project and executed such a quality knife in a extremely difficult steel to work with.
Thank you

Nice micrograph, and thanks for sharing it. Also obviously thanks for helping to get the heat treat dialed in for these knives. That’s quite an honor for a knifemaker to do that and have your logo on the blade. I’m just now starting to use my 15V Manix 2 and look forward to getting it reground thinner (once I find an knifemaker wanting to go through several belts and an lot of time, lol) after I get a feel for it. I have the Manix 2 at factory thickness in several steels, and several reground, so it is nice to be able to compare apples to apples side by side. I’ll also likely be getting at least the Para 2, and hopefully the Shaman in 15V as well.

It's kind of like looking at the James Webb Telescope photos..really cool and interesting, but no idea what exactly I'm looking at haha!!

Shawn, thanks for doing all that you've done. I've learned alot from the information/content that you've shared here and through Instagram. Looking forward to the day I have some 15V in my hand. (Hands??)

It should arrive at Lamnia soon. Also Knives&Tools and Coutellerie Tourangelle should have some, but they haven't said so yet.
In the collection : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.
