I grew up hunting in New England but now in the DC area I don’t hunt much anymore. In New England deer were very hard to find. But here, I live in the suburbs and they are everywhere. They are not too scared of people either, I can get within 20 feet of them sometimes.Manifestgtr wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:51 amMy aunt lives in silver springs and the deer population there never fails to shock me. I know it’s relatively populated and therefor not conducive to hunting but is hunting tightly regulated in Maryland or something? I’m telling you…winter, spring, summer and fall…there are deer EVERYWHERE at my aunt’s place.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:10 amMy first rife was a 30-06, as a young teenager I always remember that thing having a lot of recoil, almost as much as my dads 300 Win Mag.
Here are four deer I saw while walking the dog the other day about 50 feet away, but is a sickening 70 here in the DC area. Hate the heat…

Was there any examination on why this is going to be a Manix 2? BBB's choice or just where it could be squeezed into production?

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
I believe it was Shawn's choice. He hinted at it earlier in this thread. He wanted it to be from Golden, and I believe the Manix was a top choice. Not sure it was the first choice on the latter.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
I seem to recall a statement in this thread that the Manix 2 is one of BBB's preferred Spyderco designs and it would make this steel accessible to more people. And something about the steel/heat treat being available now instead of waiting for BBB's folder design. But I could easily have read that into the statements.

If I remember correctly, big if, but I think Shaun said something about the Manix 2 being the Mule of the folders. Maybe just an easy platform to try out new steels.

i would agree with that. they're very similar in blade shape and angle. the handles are fairly different, but both are equally comfortable in my hand and have a nice swell to them.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:24 amIf I remember correctly, big if, but I think Shaun said something about the Manix 2 being the Mule of the folders. Hey BBB, thanks for sharing your M2 15V pics on your hunt. I came home yesterday evening to find a fat 3-point Blacktail in my front yard. In town so he was safe. I shoot a Ruger stainless MK II in .308 myself. One of the old skeleton stock models.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
David,
The original intention was for CPM 15V to be used on my collaboration folder which is a design I sent to Spyderco many years ago. There was a delay in getting the folder made because I very vehemently wanted it made in Golden which is my favorite factory, I don't care how long it takes, that is my dream knife.
Unfortunately, 2020 had other plans with the global pandemic and supply chain issues afterwards in combination with the expansion of the golden factory.
This pushed back people getting a chance to experience the CPM 15V but a lot of work was already done to on the heat treatment behind the scenes.
Eric proposed an idea to get people 15V in the meantime by using it on models they already have that don't require new training and techniques to produce.
As it turns out it's not as simple when a new model comes out it's just pressing buttons on machines and pulling levers and knives get popped out.
They basically have to come up with efficient manufacturing techniques customized to each design and train employees for each design, the Spyderco crew deserves a lot more credit than they receive for the level of expertise and skill they bring to get the volume of knives they do at the price they do with the quality they do. Respect.
Eric suggested we should use the Manix 2 because it's one of the models that they have the most expertise and experience making and a model they consider to be there "folding mule"
I also like the manix 2, that was my first Spyderco knife actually so it is rather fitting.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
.308 win is a solid choice man, I'm also a big Ruger fan, yeah the deer certainly know when they are in rifle season. I think I might take up archery to take advantage of the rut.
Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
Shades of Jack O'Connor. Great choice for blacktail. Those 130 gr Bronze Points are fast opening and can be explosive. First gun I bought was a Remington 700 BDL in .270. Found out later that they were having some difficulties in the late sixties and my barrel was likely a Hart barrel from their custom shop. Lots of good memories with that gun. No Spydercos around at the time. Would have been great to have a SpydieChef skinner during those magical times.Deadboxhero wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 12:57 am
I'm using a Remington 700 chambered in .270 Winchester, it's basically a .30-06 (.27-06) with a necked down case, a lighter, narrower bullet yet the same case length as a .30-06, which is the famous cartridge most of our grandfathers used during World War II in their M1 Garands. The .270 Win is an old classic, very pleasant to shoot with good range and effect, it shoots flatter and has less recoil than .30-06
Plenty of wild pigs roaming the rolling oak covered hills in central California where I'm from. IMHO an even better test media than deer for 15V.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. The last two Manix variants I’ve bought have been nearly flawless from the factory..the REC being the smoothest Manix I own.Deadboxhero wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 1:52 pmEric suggested we should use the Manix 2 because it's one of the models that they have the most expertise and experience making and a model they consider to be there "folding mule"

I concur. The manix series is consistently great out of the factory, and I can see the resemblance to the mule pattern!Manifestgtr wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 10:25 pmDoesn’t surprise me at all. I just hope this drop knocks it out of the park and Spyderco and BBB decide to do a full sprint run of the other Golden models - in addition to his collab.

Hi everyone, I've never used the Spyderco forums before but I really want to grab one of these when they become available. Are their any other threads here on the forum I would be subscribed to?
Thanks,
Ken

Welcome to the forum Ken! You're in the right place right here, I don't think there is another thread on 15V BBB Manix2.

Umm where did you hear that? Shawn has vaguely said before the end of the year.
