I work with sheet metal and from my prospective I think what’s happening other than tooling marks as previously stated by a member. I think the clips may be bent after finishing and polishing. Or it’s the angles are too sharp for the machine to stamp or bend without leaving behind marks. This really is a normal thing when it comes to working metal. I noticed the marks are actually uniform to each knife. Like they are all similar. I honestly never paid any attention to this before being brought to our attention. I’m cool with it and sometimes change my clips anyway. I know this isn’t a makers mark but maybe it could be. Like proofing it’s a real Spyderco. Js. I love Spyderco and as long as it cuts and sharpens I’m happy.

Leaving the "barcode" like marks aside, does the Spyderco spider regularly vary as much as indicated in the previous posts?

I like the uniqueness of the knives and clips. All have their own Little differences.

The marks are on the clip of my M4 Native 5. To me, they look too clean and uniform not to be intentional, but I guess we'll never know unless someone from Spyderco chimes in.

Hey, everyone:
The marks are unintentional and happen during the manufacturing process. We're reviewing the information with our crew and will improve in the future.

I hope this clears things up.

Thank you! I kind of liked the mysterious aspect of the marks. :cheap-sunglasses :rofl

I never imagined I’d hear “thigh gap” discussed on a knife forum 🤣

I checked and both of my Shaman have the plump bug and the tool marks on the clip. Didn’t notice either before.

These pics make it look worse than it is. You can barely see the marks when handling the knife.

Also who cares. Seriously was this thread out of curiousity or is it a complaint?

I dont mind the marks at all. I dont care that they are there. I dont think Spyderco should have to put any effort at all into reviewing this information, or the manufacturing process of the clip, or trying to fix something that isnt a problem.

For me was curiousness to see why or how this happened. Or was there differences in different models. I think it’s not even a problem just an observation that was brought to light. Not sure what the creator of the thread was thinking.

What would be the use of QC tolerances and fit/finish standards then? I'm just grateful that Kristi acknowledged this as unintentional on their part, meaning Spyderco clips aren't meant to look like that and don't hold up to Spyderco's standards.

I have a Lil Native that I use every day at my desk.

Had it since last Fall, never noticed the "marks" until this thread pointed them out.

A non-issue for me.

Mrj, the spiders on the clips pic you posted look pretty much the same. Did you look at the pic linked to by Cptwiggum in the first post? That was what my question was in reference to. The differences are significant.

I couldnt even see the marks till I got my loupe out and checked. The DLC coating almost covers it. Non issue for me

My 4 Shamans have the marks,,,

Rex45 Sprint
M4 Green Micarta Satin, Bladehq Exclusive
M4 Natural G10 DLC, Bladehq Exclusive
Zwear Micarta Sprint

Also my Native 5 Salt has them but the black coating hides it more

Again, Non issue for me and wouldnt have seen it till mentioned here and with my Loupe

Yea the spiders on the shaman and native 5 are different looking than the 4 I showed in that picture. They seem to just be bent and stamped by a different machine imo. It’s unique to them tho. Not something to get worried about.

Hi CaptWiggum, SaisonLife,

Welcome to our forum.

It was as PennyPincher said; flat stock marked in the bending process. As Kristi said, unintentional.
