Any thoughts on 3D Native?

#1

Post by Jeweler »

I just ordered a 3D Native off ebay and was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this knife. It looks very cool and in anticipation of the knifes arrival I started carrying my old Gin 1 earth Native.

I noticed on BF there was a post on how hard they are to open.

Any thoughts either way on this knife

Thanks Jim

I noticed that the Seki made FRN knives (not only the Native, but also the Delica and Endura), are tighter than the Golden made ones. My FRN CPM-440V Earth Native had NIB the smoothest action I ever see (on a FRN).

My PE one came yesterday. I have to say that I like these 3D FRN handles better than any other high-tech material (G10, CF, etc) for real world use. There is a bit of resistance to opening, but the action is still smooth. Probably the strength of the lock spring.

My only complaint is that the hole is a little blocked by the handle. Hasn't been a real problem yet.

I've had a 3D PE Native for about 3 months, and I love the handle. Mine does seem to be harder to open than my Delicas, Endura, or Standard, but not enough to be a problem. The added thickness in the handle is worth it.

thanks for the information on the 3d Native
you guys make it sound good cant wait to get mine.

Tenchu66 no that is not my ebay name and that is not the one I bought it from.
my ebay name is ASPENJEWELRY and the seller I got the native from was razorsharpknives.
Seems to be really good I paypaled the same day and he sent email the next day stating it was on its way. He will be getting a positive feedback from me for sure.

Jeweler-
Let me say that I do not have the Native 3D, but a blue forum Native 3 is on its' way to me as I type this. The reason I am chiming in here is that razorsharpknives is AWESOME. He is by FAR the best eBay knife dealer I have dealt with yet, and is super efficient with all of his business. I think I've bought about 5 or 6 knives from him so far- too bad feedback only works on an ID basis. <shrug> Glad to hear that he's taking great care of you as well. Let us know what you think of your new knife once you get it!

I don't own a Native but my Golden Co. Meerkat opens way easier than the Seki which I like. The Seki seem too stiff.

Hey, I see most of you guys chimin' into this post. So I figured I would just add my two cents on what is being said about the natives. My Bladeforums Blue FRN Native is in route also at this time, however, I must say I put my two Natives III away in my collection (PE&SE). I use one of the Golden, CO natives (Black FRN, PE) as one of my EDC and it has been the sharpest of my EDC out of the box with the smoothest action opening/closing. I've noticed too with all the seki knives that most are quite a bit more tight in release as of the more recently produced knives. But I'm sure like any good baseball cap you can work one in to your likin' with some time (lil knife oil and openin'/closin'). I would like to state that I too agree with the statements on razorsharpknives (ebay seller) being one of the best knife dealers I've dealt with on ebay. I have bought quite a few of my spydercos through him. Anyhow, I think I've chimed enough for now...(Join the Offical 'Keep Sal in Business!' fanclub) <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I did a review w/pics when I got mine:
http://www.spyderco.com/forum/Topic.asp ... Discussion

And another big up for Sawyer's Cutlery. That's the real name for razorsharpknives(they also have another alias I believe). Got some sweet deals from them, and always top service.

I agree with those who have already posted here, got my first 3D, a blue Forum one, on Saturday. The spring is a bit heavier than the one on the USA Earth Natives, but the action is every bit as smooth. The thicker, contoured handles do take a bit of getting use to, at first it felt kind of clunky in my hand, but now it feels even more comfortable that the regular Native. I like the 3D enough that I'll most likely get a plain black one sometime soon for carry.

Also concur that razorsharpkives is great to do business with and, for that matter, so is allthebestdeals. I've bought knives on eBay from both, more from Warren at allthebestdeals, and would not hesitate to deal with either of them again. Agree the feedback system there could stand some improvement. To my way of thinking, multiple positives from repeat customers should carry extra weight.
