Another positive for those like me that have missed out on all the great exclusive Military versions, we certainly will have our shot at them now.

I've been wondering how likely this really is. How many examples of this do we have where a new version ran all or most of the sprints and exclusives that the previous version ran? Maybe the Para 2/Paramilitary? There are definitely combos I think they could sell if they ran again in the Military 2. It's probably a great feeling for Spyderco knowing they can practically print money with this one model's sales potential.

i can't tell if it's finally time for me to try a military, or if i'm excited for the military 2.
DLT just restocked quite a few of the base models if you're looking for one. The digicam is cool.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

If it were any other model, I'd probably think not. However, this model is probably on a waiting list to get exclusives made.

Man, the Military is good. I'm excited to see tip up. Just because it is a pain to get your hand past the jimping when it is in your right front pocket. The Military series does the compression lock right so no worries there with the new model. I'm sure it will be great. However, I really really like the Military's liner lock.

thanks for the heads up. digicam isn't really my thing. i'd rather have a blacked out version or the ti framelock that isn't available anymore.

i'm sure both versions are good. when i first saw the m2, i didn't like the standard clip on it. the previous clip is more fitting for the knife in my mind, but the more i look at it, the more i like the m2. i like the choil better on the m2, for sure. and it's hard not to just get an s35v resilience instead of the military if i want a liner lock spyderco.

I wish they kept the scale chamfering of the old model. Looks like it has harder corners, more like the PM2. Also, wonder what the liners look like. Do they run the full handle, or partial?

Interested nonetheless.

I've long wondered why the PM 2's scales aren't chamfered. Does a bit of chamfering really add that much to the production cost?

I'm assuming full nested skeletonized, because that's the typical way to mount pocket clips at all corners.

I'm betting they don't bevel the corners very far because eventually you'd hit the liners. This is why you can only contour and polish a nested liner knife so far.

think so too, but on the other hand the Millie 2 is even a hair lighter than the Millie 1 with its just partial liner (4.3 vs 4.5 oz).
Granted, the handle looks to have slightly less material, but still full liners on both side of the handle should rather add weight?? :thinking

I wish for the skeletonizing to stop.
I grow tired of diet knives.

What benefit do You get from a heavier knife though? Lighter is almost always better

if you don't wear lw or baggy clothing, the heavier knives feel more sturdy in hand and can be more desirable.

Heavier (full liners and lock back) sound better when thumb flicked open.

If they can lighten a knife without sacrificing rigidity or durability, I don't see any downsides. I've never picked up my para 3 and thought it would be nicer if it had full liners for extra weight.

So not benefits per se, just personal preference. You don't GAIN anything, just LIKE to feel something bricky in hand :winking-tongue

If it were general truth, then maybe I could agree, but this also is preference not objective benefit ;)

i'm certain there is actual gain in strength and durability between a knife with liners and g10 over a knife with no liners and frn. i don't think that gain is something you should ever actually experience beyond preference though because the linerless frn is more than capable of withstanding whatever force you should be putting on the tool in use. but it doesn't really matter... it's not like preference doesn't count for anything.

If we're talking about LWs vs G10 with liners, then yeah G10 with liners feels better. The added rigidity and strength the liners give just feels a lot better to work with. FRN also gives that instinctive cheap plastic feel.

However, if it's just skeletonised vs full liners, I don't see the downside to skeletonising.

Exactly, when comparing skeletonized vs full liners there is no benefit to the latter in 99% cases.
