It seems like a very nice knife for under $50.

Nice design. Would have preferred aluminum scales for weight reduction. Quite a deal compared to the $106 ss delica. IMO vg10 is not worth the extra $60. Plus you get a finger choil. The astute and uptern really show spyderco cares about putting beautiful designs into the market at great value for the consumers that aren’t steel conscious.

I think you’re right, but why the Spydiehole, do you think.

It says in the cataloge that the knife is an based off improved version of the byrd for the spyderco value line so its simple the design is good enough to upgrade it from a Byrd to fully blessed spyderco and so they did and the uptern is the result. And you have to have the spydiehole if its a spyderco 😁

The UpTern was one of only two things in the latest Reveal that caught my eye. To me, it gives off a decidedly all stainless Calypso Jr. vibe, and the lack of a Boye dent really sealed the deal.

Oh, I'll be the first, where's the FRN version, lol.

Actually looking forward to handling one.

This seems to be similar in size to the SpyDK. Which is one of my favourite slip-its.
The blade looks to avoid the broader tip of the Delica for a “splinter picker” tip, another thumbs up.
Plus the backlock. :red-heart

While I’m def interested in hearing what Sal has to say about this model, the linerless g10 + wire clip of the tern would make the Uptern perfect!

I like this design.
Its the most interesing knife from this reveal.

For me its a Calypso Jr./ DFY XL/ Rookie crossover!

I whould love to see it in a better steel an FRN/G10/Micarta/CF

An employee of mine recently brought back a Byrd Robin 2 from her road trip to Colorado. It is a fantastic little knife - great action, centering, and finishing.

This’ll be a great knife.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

This will be a must buy for me. I've never had a stainless steel Spydie so it will be a first for me. Excited beyond the price point.

Man, I want to love that knife but can’t help but feel like it’s a bit awkward in the video. The choil looks a bit oversized, the thumb ramp looks a bit long, the cutting edge looks a bit short.

I might actually love it in person, though. I’ll probably try an FRN version.

The SS handle is a deal breaker for me, hoping for an FRN or G-10 version to come along.

To me, that's about as large a knife I would want with an SS handle, but I think it would be all right. And I actually really like the design, and I hope to see more of this in other materials!

I'm not generally a SS handle fan, but It's small enough that the weight wouldn't be a deal breaker. I'm hoping these sell well so we can get an FRN version.
