In the size range we are getting to, doesn’t the Military kind of eclipse both Shaman and Chief?
I’ve never really been drawn to the Military. I don’t like tip down carry and I don’t like liner locks in general. Nothing against them, just not my jam.
Backlock is my favorite but the Millie is just an anomaly. I don’t like comp locks as I don’t like free swinging blades. Have you handled a Millie?

I haven’t. No where around here has them in stores and I don’t want to to buy one and bother with selling it if I didn’t like it.

Btw, I have twin girls. Crazy, but fun. The girls are 2.5 and big brother is 4.5.

Well major props man, twins are hard. Mine are 14 now but birth- third grade shortened my life I am certain.

So, my ADHD is kicking in hard and I have too many knives waiting to be used. I’m not going to be able to make myself do this for 30 days.

I have realized in 5 days that I do love the Chief though. I’ll continue to update here with any interesting findings.

Some initial impressions switching to the Shaman for the last day and a half…

Doesn’t slice nearly as well as the Chief, but that was to be expected. I also think I prefer the feel of the Chief in my hand for a lot of my usual tasks. The Shaman definitely feels beefier when bearing down through push cuts. I could see it replacing a small fixed blade while camping and fishing.

Going to carry the Shaman again tomorrow, but I am missing the Chief today. Maybe I’ll carry both.

Just found this nice thread (as I’m making a decision which sprint of those to buy too late and overpriced :winking-tongue). Any updates here? How both feel after all that time?

The whole Native line is carved in glory and good taste. Good job Spyderco. I'd buy them all if I could.

I like the Chief more than the Shaman for my daily uses at work. It’s much slicer and it just feels better in my hand overall. Seems counterintuitive based on the Shaman’s contoured scales. I really like the Shaman as well though and grab it when I feel like I’ll be doing more abusive tasks. It’s more like a beefed up PM2 to me.

I did some trading for a second Chief in Rex45, if that tells you anything.

I’d love a chief with contoured Micarta scales.

I almost bought the M4 Chief, but the fact that there are no aftermarket scales yet held me back.
Cuscadi can make them for you.

Maybe! I can’t find an example on their site. It seems like the liner less construction is hard to replicate in micarta.

Unfortunately, or luckily for my wallet, the M4 Chief is OOS for now.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
