Awesome guys, thanks a lot for this, very helpful. The blade is shorter than expected but nice and chunky compared to that ladyhawk. I think the handle will accommodate my large but scrawny hands nicely. Have a good one y'all!

Received mine today. It is every bit as delightfully strange as I remembered.

Really hope the lock is easier than my Qball. But excited nonetheless.

It's certainly easier for my fingers to access than the Q Ball.

It seems easier than my D Allara 3 was when it was new, although my D Allara did break in pretty well after a while.

So far I think the poliwog is the easiest exposed bbl to unlock. But thats because its design lets you get really good purchase on the ball. The problem with the wog is it is overall small and if you have large hands it can take some fiddling with the grip when you close it.

Any tricks required to disassemble, so I can dye the scales? I'll do it in a plastic bag assuming the spring will fly off into space.

Open the blade first. The spring will be less compressed and less likely to yeet itself into outer space. Put some tape on it if you're worried about cutting your self. Keep a good flashlight handy in case you do lose it. Have some kind of tray or cup to put the ball in so it doesn't roll away.

Got mine today. It eats thick clamshell packaging for lunch. And now I want to get a serrated Cricket for the similar blade shape and much more portability; I don't use my PE one much, but the teeth make a big difference.

Yowzer I went the other direction: picked up the SE Cricket and just loved it, which helped push me toward the Dodo.

How are these still available?

Didn’t the BHQ PE M4 Dodo sell out in like 15 minutes?

Maybe BHQ ordered more SE. Maybe people are afraid of trying to sharpen serrations. Maybe everyone is broke because the price of everything is going up so fast. Maybe the social media influencers missed it and didn't stir up enough fomo.

I don't recall rushing to order when I got my PE. Frankly, I think whatever the reasons are it is a good thing.

Just got mine. It's everything I would expect out of Golden in terms of fit and finish. :smiling-heart-eyes Surprisingly, it is quite a bit thicker than my original blue Dodo; gives the knife a more substantial feel, but makes it harder to operate the ball bearing lock.

Website was pretty screwed up at the time but it was OOS 6-7 minutes after it went live.

What I've seen the price and steel are a turnoff to buyers right now + BHQ Shaman coming right on the heels. I also believe the quantity is double the first run 800-1200.

I adore M4 but it’s a bit less hot than it was a decade ago and still just as corrosion prone. Just gotta keep it cleaned and wiped with something like Froglube if you don’t want patina. The serrations also don’t help with the demand.

I regretted selling my orange PE but this is even better. If you like teeth and weird things that is :)

For those that picked up one of these, I highly recommend giving the SE Dodo a reprofile. The cutting performance is a night and day comparison. Out of the box my reprofiled PE was cutting circles around the factory SE which seemed to be a touch over 20 degrees.

Front side was taken down with a CBN rod and then finished with a few minutes on the fine rod. For the back side I just used the brown rod after the blade was apexed and then stropped with 1 micron CBN compound on basswood.

Did you take it down to 30 degrees then? How long did that take you to do the front side?

Yes I used the 30 degree slots so it's 15 on the front and I kept the back side as close to flat as possible to keep the chisel grind. I used fast up and down stokes and it took about 90 mins. I've reprofiled a lot of SE blades so I'd expect it to take about 2x as long for most people although the CPM-M4 isn't too bad to grind so depending on your technique and skill your mileage will vary.
