PM2 Micarta Cruwear aftermarket backspacers

#1

Post by Big_Tex »

Curious if anyone has started making aftermarket scales and backspacers for the full liner edition of the Cruwear Micarta PM2?

I’m hoping myself. I think it is possible but remember it’s only one knife with full liners in a sea of regular PM2 variations. It’s like looking for lefty scales, sales may not be worth the time to produce them .

I’m doubting that this will happen. Not to yuck your yumm or anything, but I think your yumm may be pretty niche.

Most folks are buying this knife specifically for the micarta scales. If you want different scales, DLT just dropped a Cruwear PM2 for a hair under $160, and stocks aftermarket scales from RGT and a few others for about $70. You could have a very customized PM2 for about $230 right there.

Edit: whelp, I sure was wrong.

RC Bladeworks is offering them under the 2-scale made-to-order section of his website.

Curious if anyone might have updated info on anyone who might be making backspacers for these… I know SteelToStone on Instagram had made a few awhile back (was lucky enough to get one in aluminum) but I don’t think he has plans to make more… I’ve had a few friends ask after seeing mine and was just wondering if anyone else is making something similar… thanks and happy new year!

Didn't know there was a full length backspacer out there for this thing until I found this thread. I'd been designing one myself and 3D printed it. After using the Crucarta PM2 for a bit, I grew to dislike these micarta scales in particular due to the flex they had when actuating the compression lock. I just happen to flick my PM2's closed as part of my normal usage. Always have, always will. It's one of the reasons I've loved the compression lock.

I was able to do this with any G10 PM2 model I picked up, but when I got the Crucarta model the flex in the scales prevented me from doing so reliably because it limited the travel of the compression lock tab. So I wasn't about to change my established usage habits for this one particular model, but I also saw it as an opportunity to learn more about using the 3D modeling software. The full length backspacer I was designing filled in the gap and stiffened up the area around the compression lock tab and now I can operate it same as my G10 models. Now I don't hesitate to grab this knife off the table ;)

P.S.
As for replacement scales, I saw that there's a fellow over on the reddit knife swap that's making wood replacement scales for the Crucarta PM2 for those that are interested. Pretty pricy though from what I remember.

Would you be willing to share the 3D design for your backspacer? I'm still working on learning 3d design and I'm not quite there yet.Yours looks great!

A knife maker that many of us know and admire recently made this OD Titanium Backspacer for my PM2. These will be available in a variety of materials and finishes. I’ll post a link once I get word that he’s added them to his website.

once I saw some scales on Etsy for the Micarta PM2 but I didn't bookmark it ... I think it was some TI scales if remember correct.

I really like this. It looks great and backspacers have a nice feel in hand. I’m this much closer to getting a Cruwear PM2.
