I love this thing, but dang, that opening hole looks HUGE!
Ooh I like this knife but agree on the hole. That ratio of hole to material is about when I decide its time to throw my undies away.

Like the prototype, agree on the hole looking huge. I am in the minority though that would probably prefer the hollow grind.

When it comes time to pull the trigger on something like that, I'll probably seriously compare to the Chicagojimbo just bc of the grind.

For me it is the handle to blade ratio. I have a 2.5 inch limit where I live, but I like the handle size of a larger knife. Got the Janlica in my pocket today, in fact. I know it looks a bit goofy, but I want more comfort in my hand than something that is pleasing to the eye.

Looks like EDC perfection, although i think the grind line should probably be lined up with the apex of the spine. Hope it comes in DLC too.

Thanks for sharing cjk, FFG sounds awesome. Do you remember what steel the prototype came in?

Yep, it was S30V.

Thanks for confirming that. I believe this picture deserves a place on every page of this glorious thread... until the day of it's already legendary reveal.

I can already tell this is going to seriously compete for pocket time with the Lil Native for me. I much prefer the aesthetics of the Microjimbo over the Lil Native Wharncliffe too. Even comparing the Microjimbo to the Chicagojimbo, as much as I like my Chicagojimbo, I already know I’m going to prefer the smaller handle size of the Microjimbo.

Seeing it teased again at SHOT show this year is a good sign that it could make it into the next Reveal! :bug-white-red

This went from a "meh" to a "will buy" for me after seeing it in hand. Sure to be a classic LBK from Spyderco.

I hope we get a 45 minute video from Mike comparing all three models, size and variations, along with the philosophy behind the entire Jimbo line, along with a steel choice discussion. I sometimes like that better than the actual knife itself...

I like the looks of it, I like the concept, it seems it's a practical tool besides it's first intended purpose.

But I'll stick to my "Salt only" rule, as a practical and psychological limit to my desires.

I've been carrying a wharncliffe dragonfly 2 as my choice of small wharncliffe blade, and it may get replaced by the mini yojimbo, which looks like it has a much more substantial grip.

Some key design features make the MicroJimbo very desirable.

  • 2.5” blade length makes it legal in such jurisdictions
  • Longer handle length regardless of blade length for a more secure grip - kind of like the JanDelica
  • Full Flat Grind (FFG) blade

There’s still no MiniJimbo with a blade length of 2.99” for jurisdictions where there are such limitations.

When you say kinda like the JanDelica, do you have a comparison of sizes? I live in an area with a 2.5-inch restriction. If it has a close enough handle to the JanDelica, then I'm definitely interested. If not, my JanDelica (currently in my pocket) is sufficient.

I don’t have a comparison picture of JanDelica next to a MicroJimbo. We know the blade length of both is 2.5” and the handle length of the JanDelica is 4.25”. From the picture of the MicroJimbo it looks like the handle is around 4” +/- 0.25”.

Hopefully, Michael Janich will chime in with the full specifications. At the 2023 SHOT Show, Eric Glasser said the MicroJimbo is “coming very soon”.
