Have any of you fellow Spyderco enthusiasts purchased a Fred Perrin? If so, how do you like it? I haven't given it any field use yet but it feels really good in my hand and I can't wait to use it.

Welcome. May be a stupid reason but I ordered a Perrin last year for the Thanksgiving turkey. Unfortunately the bird got a little overdone and didn't hold together enough to slice. The Perrin's still waiting. It's a very handsome blade and should serve you very well.

Hi, I got a Perrin from last January.I haven't used it for heavy jobs yet,but it
was used in the kitchen alot and I took it
with me on a camping trip last month.
Very sharp blade, I always use it to dice the
meat for preparing wok. Also I can slice a
smoked ham almost as thin as if it was done
with a slicing machine, can't do that with
my Millie.

It is my new(since May) camping,hiking, well outdoor knife. I have yet to really beat on this blade. I did not get out as much this year as in the past. You can't go wrong with 5 inches of VG-10. I find the handle really comfortable too. You might be able to find an old post of mine when I first got it in May. Take Care and Enjoy the Perrin!!!

I recently purchased a Perrin. The blade is wonderful, cuts like a dream. I've never seen a PE blade slide through cardboard like this one.

My one complaint is the sheath. It holds the blade vertical, horizontal, inverted, and at a 45 degree angle. Since I wear it on my right hip, I'd like to carry it slightly less than vertical. Vertical sticks it hard against my side and I have trouble drawing it. I'd like to put it at a 66 degree angle (the tek-lok has holes for that) but the sheath isn't drilled for it. I've resorted to carrying it blade-forward and pommel pushed downward a bit, approximating a 80 degree angle. When I draw with my right hand, it's tip-down and edge-out.

I don't really think the sheath should be carried inverted, it's too loose.

Perhaps I'm being picky about the positions on the tek-lok. Overlooking that, the sheath rattles something fierce. It clicks every time I take a step. If I do keep the blade straight vertical, it presses against the side of my torso, and that keeps it fairly tight inside the sheath, lessening the rattle.

Again, I love the blade. It fits great in my hand and cuts wonderfully. I'm just not thrilled with the sheath. Consider getting one from a custom sheath maker.

You know, I just got my Perrin yesterday, and at first, I thought the sheath was broken. I then realized that I needed to push the knife in until it clicks and locks into place. I have not tried to wear it yet (I doubt they'd let me do that here at work) but I also agree with the placement of holes that can be used for the mounting of the holder, as it would seem like there could be other options for mounting.

I guess try to make sure your knife is fully seated in the sheath. I thought I had a defective sheath at first, that's how easily it came out. Good Luck! Awesome knife, BTW! I like the black coating and the thumb serrations on the spine- very grippable.

Yeah, the first time I sheathed it, I didn't push it in all the way either. Even with it fully sheathed, I don't think it could handle lots of bouncing around (like me running) inverted. Then again, I wasn't about to try it either.

Thank you all. I also don't care for the sheath. I purchased a Blackhawk Airborne Sheath and I think it will ride in that when it goes in the field. Or perhaps carry it cross-draw style in its original. I don't know. All I know is....I really like the knife.

update on the sheath: Last night I carried the knife and sheath around the house with handle at a downward cant (45 degree angle). In the space of an hour or so, it fell out twice. I wasn't running or bouncing, though one time I was hurrying down my hallway.
