Dragonfly 2 in LC200N?

#1

Post by ArtyTheSmarty »

Is this the year!?

I watched the Knife Centre and Blade HQ reveals and didn't see an update on the Dragonfly 2.

Maybe it will be one of those reveals that we weren't able to see?

I'm still down! Hopefully a blacked out version and a standard green.

the df2 isn't my favorite knife, but i'd still love to see one in ffg lc200n. even more than that though, i'd love to see a blacked out salt version in lc200n or h1.

At this point I'm waiting for the MagnaCut hostile takeover. I think H1 is safe but I suspect LC200N's days are numbered.

Maybe. I think theres still something to be said for easy sharpening, and lc200n is probably in my top 4 for easiest to sharpen steels.

I don't think I'd say MagnaCut is more difficult though, at least in plain edge. It grinds very nicely and takes an amazing edge with ease. I'm pretty hopeful.

Japan already works with LC200N which makes me think they would use it before MagnaCut. That said, I would be happy either though!

I'd be more interested in Magnacut, but honestly I still prefer H1 and SE in my Salt knives. They do most of my dirty work and I always have a PE in the other pocket.

Hi Dave , so you think there will be a phase out of LC200N to make room for Magnacut ? Anything is possible , especially if sales are factored in . I see what you are saying though when the first folder for Magnacut is replacing a model in LC200N . The Manix rumor is possibly the next in line so where do you think is the next step ? Just throwing this out there Siren and Caribbean are what one could say are upper tier models in that steel . I don’t see Spyderco just investing in this steel in the Salt series . I may be wrong it is just how I see it . Spyderco has to jump on the train early to establish a base for this steel and offer a variety. I think I ate too much desert tonight ! MG2

I am happy with my H1 and Lc200N knives and intend to keep using them all, but if the Native and the LW Manix 2 in MC sells better than the LC200N models, we can expect more Salt knives in Magnacut.

It'll probably come down to availability and whether they want to have MagnaCut mixed between a bunch of Salt models and regular models, which seems like a recipe for confusion to me. If they made a knife in H1 that wasn't a full Salt model with rust proof handle components, someone would surely find a way to rust it and complaints would follow. Cost is always a factor too and I was under the impression that LC/H1 both are not cheap.

As long as H1 is safe, I'm good.

I am really interested in any seki LC200n knives. The green is such a deal breaker for me. Something about it just says no, do not purchase. I get it if I was underway, but then yellow would be preferred. Not sure if there are any plans for standard black?

I think we are going to see USA made Salts in Magnacut and they will leave the Japanese lines alone.

Count me in.
I've been asking this, and all black options for all the salt series, for a long time.

Green was chosen for it's ability to retain its color for divers.
Water absorbs colors differently based on depth and green keeps it's color most accurate and also makes it easier to find a dropped knife on the ocean floor.

There is a reason they are neon green and it's not based on someone's personal preference or aesthetics of what coordinates with your purse. :winking-tongue

That could actually well may happen - at least for the near-ish future, but who knows. I am willing to believe that Spyderco themselves are still in the process of figuring out how Magnacut fits their lines & processes and they are yet to receive feedback from wider audience as the N5 is yet to hit the shelves. I guess we will need to be patient to see how this unfolds.
