lanyards and paracord

#1

Post by sethwm »

I hang my k390 delica in my garage by a paracord through the lanyard hole. I just sharpened it so I did a full disassembly to clean and lube everything which meant cutting off the lanyard.

I used 750 para cord originally which was a royal pain to get through the lanyard hole but I didn’t have anything else. This time though I ordered a few types to try out.

I wanted to create a lanyard for both my delica and my manbug, so I bought a few cords: 325, 275, 95, and 33.

Just a couple observations:
* the hole on the manbug is larger than the delica. That surprised me.
* 325 fits through the manbug with room for a split key ring
* 325 does NOT easily fit through the delica. I know it will with some effort (because my 750 did with effort)
* 275 fits pretty easily in the delica

I saw a thread like this a few years ago but figured I’d just add some data here. If other folks have had success with different cord and lanyards maybe post below.

If anyone from spyderco sees this, adding intended paracord thickness to the spec sheet for each knife would be helpful.

Just looked through all my spydercos and the hole on the delica is smaller than all of them.

I take it you are using paracord with the 7 strand core still in it?

I always remove the core first. Then it's pretty easy to pull through.

Paracord is sold in various diameters, identified by relative strength.
I have 550, 425, 325, 275. 95 and micro cord.
Check out Bored Paracord for more details and diameter spec.
