The Mail is Here. A couple more. K390 and M390

Here is what the mailman brought today.

Delica Wharncliffe K390

SpyOpera M390

I'm not too schooled up on the difference in the two steels, but I know I do like K390. Both are extremely sharp. I already poked a hole in my finger with the Wharncliffe. It's like a needle at the point of it. Small leak. Minimal damage. :bug-red-white

I think people have started to pooh-pooh M390, but I still think it's an S-tier steel. That being said I don't necessarily trust Italian heat treating :grin-sweat

Nice! It's a Delica, and a variant that I will eventually pick up, good mail call indeed!
So it goes.

I don't think I'll be using the SpyOpera for anything too heavy duty. I did read an article about the heat treat, and I don't think it's an issue any more.

Endura Wharncliffe K390
That doesn’t currently exist. You must mean Delica. Regardless, nice knives!

Opps. Yes. I got my A's mixed up. It's a Delica. But a bigass Endura Wharncliffe K390 would be good. I'da fixed it, but no edit button.

Oh. Wait....there IS one. Fixed it.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the SpyOpera. Some photos I had seen made the scales look rough or mottled. These are not. I took quite a few photos until I got a couple that show pretty much exactly how they look. The are smooth, reminiscent of the old black micarta days. The contours give them an almost wood grain appearance. They are impeccably fitted on the liners, and the lock back bar is nicely rounded. All in all, a well put together knife. Not sure if it's a good comparison, but it kinda reminds me of a Worker I had many years ago.

It has above average corrosion resistance and was originally created for plastics molding. It doesn’t do any one thing fantastic but is a nice balanced, stainless steel.

Man that Spyopera sure looks like a nice piece - love the micarta.

I think I’m between that and a Birdseye Maple Chapparal for a gent’s knife.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

If Sal does, why would you not?

Compared to S30V it's a tiny bit more wear resistant, a tiny bit less tough, and a lot more stainless. Takes a nice high polished edge if you're into that sort of thing.
