Hi Matus,

I think you will like it. It is a highly refined cutting tool. I carried one today. Do you have a Sharpmaker? Have you watched David's video on serrations?

OK, a little update needed - the Ark my friend in SA has helped me to order does not seem to want to arrive (it has been 4 weeks) and there is nothing but silence around the Ayoob SE. This situation together with that 'gardening knife thread' finally pushed over the edge and now I have a Pacific SE H1 with yellow handle incoming ...

You really can't go wrong with a Pacific especially for gardening. It'll serve you well. I hope your ARK eventually comes through, it's one of my favorite SE options.

For gardening: Probably perfect (like in as perfect as a folding knife can be for gardening)

For general first SE experience: Good, but not perfect imo. I love my H1 Pac Salt SE for "harder" outdoor use as an extremely capable separator of matter. But the shallower serrated, ffg Endela SE for example imo is even more likely to convince people coming from PE and using their first SE knife for typical smaller EDC tasks.

Anyway: This doe NOT mean you did not make a great choice! You´re about to get an amazing cutting tool, no doubt! :smlling-eyes
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Thank you Sal. Yes, I do have a shaprmaker (including the CBN rods as I plan to test different edges). About the video - I saw one by vivi - do you maybe mean that one?

I definitely hope that the Ark will arrive ...

I was considering the LC200N Pacific (and Endela), but also because of our ladybug93 I felt compelled to give this classic Spyderco a try and also use it to learn to sharpen serrated hollow ground edge. Sooner or later the Ayoob SE will be here and I would like to know how to take care of its edge properly (and also what to expect cutting wise as there are some clear similarities).

I was very much tempted by the Jumpmaster, but could not really find one and the price is more than what I wanted to invest at this moment. Also I may be willing to take a more drastic changes to the grind of the Pacific later (should I consider that relevant/wanted) that I would likely not want to do to a Jumpaster.

That is why I decided to stop agonizing about it. You really made me curios and I also realized that there are awful few videos / reviews of this one on YT. Maybe I can do something about that at a later date too :)

Yeah, it loos like something that really belongs to a battlefield. I would love if Spyderco could make a more 'civilian' version of it (I would not mind giving a hand with a redesign :savouring )

I really haven't seen a better matter separator though. It loves water bottles, makes short work of steak, tomatoes, and is the best bread knife I own. I realize the purpose, but I am just saying how good of a cutter it is.

I have heard great things about the Jumpmaster, but would prefer slightly different design for use around the house.

It's a smart choice. H1 in spyderedge outperforms any other steel from my experience. I own both Jumpmaster and the Pac Salt1( seven of them). The Jumpmaster is a scary beast, I tell you.

I like the look of the first gen Pacific. The Jumpmaster is right there making me nervous, but for now it must wait. Maybe one day.

The eagle (I mean pelican 😁 ) has landed!

First impressions - feels solid in hand, very lightweight, but not ‘hollow’. Crazy sharp OOTB. First few curs into cardboard impressed me - I expected way more resistance. When holding it my middle finger tends to land on that ‘hump’, but only use will show whether that is going to be a problem (then I would gently sand it) or not.

I am considering myself to be officially “SE enabled “ and can already say that I can’t wait for the Ayoob SE to hit the shelves. Thank you ladybug93 !

Ok, So despite it being a great knife, I'm not a huge Delica fan. Even less so a fan of the Wharnie Delica. So, why then did I HAVE to have this when I was at the SFO Wednesday?

i find the hollow grind to work really well for cardboard. the first time i tried my pac salt on cardboard, it was because my manix was getting caught up and the blade was actually heating up from the friction. i switched to the pac salt and couldn't believe how it tore through the rest of the boxes i was breaking down. i still prefer a box cutter, but that moment made me a bigger fan of the hollow grind on the pac salt.

when i hold my pacific salt, i put my thumb against the ramp, my index finger goes in the first space, my middle and ring fingers sit in the second space, and my pinky rides in the last space.

looking at pictures comparing the handles, i think i would just have to adjust to having my ring and pinky together and everything else would be the same. not sure if that helps or not.

i know the bump on the delica sits right under my middle finger and it bugs me that it's there, but it doesn't actually bother me in use. constant swells, like the ones on the stretch, rockjumper, and caribbean, are definitely more comfortable for me, but i've really never had a problem with the pac salt or delica. if we see a ticn se h1 stretch xl, it could potentially replace my pac salt, but i'm guessing that would be a long way down the road.

I agree - in that kind of grip my fingers find the same positions. It would be more ofvan issue with a hammer grip as the hand would be forced to far back to achieve the same - what would be the opposite of what one wants to achieve with a hammer grip (to get close to the cutting edge, that is). But this handle is a bit on the thin side for me for a comfortable hammer grip, so I expect to use sabre grip more often.
