I think we need a poll on whether we should serrate the holes for skinning hot dogs?

Do that and we'll need a splined set of rods for the sharp maker.

I think you’re on to something Sal, a serrated hole would be much less messy. Have you ever thought of teaming up with Jack Links? The future is bright!

I try not to comment on differing opinion when it makes no difference to me, but I feel I must speak up for the hole. Getting rid of the hole is a plan full of holes. I think the hole on these knives is one key aspect that differentiates Spyderco in the marketplace. It is simply brilliant. And sharpening the hole, come on guys. Come on. We are asking a hole lot from Sal and co.

Gail says you shouldn't be judgmental until you have the hole story. There is a hole lot more here to be examined.

The reason for the hole….

I found that if you face North after dark, hold the blade upright, angle the tip roughly 30 degrees over your right shoulder, with the blade aligned Spine West/Edge East, and hold the knife 1.5 inches directly in front of your face, you can take a bearing with that hole by sighting the North star through it.

BOOM!! Genius post and a fact I already knew, I’ve been working on this mathematical formula for close to 20 years now, the fact that someone else has been also? I’m fighting the back the tears, two total strangers….two geniuses on the same forum, cheers Mr. 99!

Technically speaking, shouldn’t that be a SpyderEdge, Sal?

Oddly I’m in Northern Australia and it gets easier. Look through the hole and see water that’s north and look through the hole and see land and that’s south….. :winking-tongue

If there was one small sharp v shaped protrusion in the spyder-hole, you could cut threads in your hotdogs and attach them anywhere…

(An old shipyard trick was to use candles instead of costlier bolts, thread nuts on the ends, then slather with grease.)

And I really wanted the sharpen the spine just like the edge, that hole really screwed that plan up! >:[

I sharpen the holes, they're the best tool I've found for skinning hotdogs.

Darby, we have a family owned BBQ joint here that’s got to be 100 years old, they have a sandwich called a cheesedog. Two spiral cut grilled beef dogs, cheese, their own special BBQ slaw, hot sauce, on a toasted bun, it’s ridiculous! I wish I had all the money I’ve spent there back over my last 5+ decades! Me and my old buddies used to ride our bikes there to eat lunch on Saturdays 5 years before we got our drivers license.

Sounds great! I live in rural New England and we don’t have any good bbq around here. That’s why I bought a traeger. I’ve gotten pretty good at making my own. There is a place I like about two hours away.
