Every time someone asks whats the nicest knife Spyderco makes this knife is my answer. Especially when it was only $215. Lot of people slept on this one.
True that.
Though I was only going to snooze off for a very lil’ while to get something I felt was more urgent.
Suddenly it was OOS at every European dealer. Then after being OOS for quite some time, I’m quite certain I heard/read somewhere it was discontinued, so I just kicked myself and accepted my misfortune.
That feels like a long time ago now, and I went on thinking it was discontinued until I just saw it in the latest catalogue.
Kind of happy to see it’s still around (in spirit at least), but man, that good “news” comes with a horrible dilemma attached $-)

It’s the nicest true CF you’ll ever see and handle. It was also used on the 40th Anniversary Native.

If I recall correctly, the street price used to be $215.97 in August 2017 and now it’s $277.20!
Just using the BLS CPI inflation calculator, $216 in 08/17 is about the same buying power as $245 in 12/21. That doesn't take into account material specific impacts from the last few years, so $277 isn't too terribly shocking although it does seem quite high.

Based on the BLS CPI Inflation Calculator $215.97 in August 2017 "has the same buying power as" $245.25 in December 2021. So, the current street price of $277.20 is still 13% greater than the inflation adjusted price.

Brand New or Pre-Owned? Care to share where? Thanks.

Yes, that yes almost exactly what I wrote except the last sentence is a little different... Not sure what you're getting at by quoting and restating? Are you agreeing or...?

CPI is obviously a very generalized number, some specific types of materials (like some types of Ti, lumber, etc), have gone up much more since 2017. I certainly would but be surprised if CF or S90V were on that list as well.

I’m saying that an increase of 13% over and above inflation is a little shocking and too much. After the August 2017 Spyderco had annual increases in MSRP but also had two other street price (MAP) increases in January 2018 and January 2020 by reducing the discount rate from 40% to 35% and then 30% which is the current rate.

Snagged one, but I don’t see these flying off the shelves. CF tends to stick around longer than most. I just didn’t want to miss this run and wait another year or more for Spyderco to make more.

I keep looking at this when I shouldn't. Had I not just bought that Military, I would have caved and got this for sure. Even despite that cost increase. I've never heard a single bad comment about this knife. I think those scales with black hardware and a DLC blade would look pretty awesome for anybody with the ability to do that swap!

I'm with you on that. Been waiting for this run for a while. Still trying to justify that price point.

I bought one as well, the first knife of the year. Last year that was the S110V Military.

I’m not in love with the Native, but I’ve wanted one of these for years. After the price hike, I can’t stomach the street price.

If they made a fluted CF Chief sprint, I’d probably get over the price. I didn’t get the CF Chief sprint because I don’t want boring flat CF.
Have: old S30V Native, HAP40 Endura, ZDP DF2, S110V Manix LW, Cru-wear Para 3, SE H1 DF2, S90V Native 5, K390 Urban, SE Pac Salt, P.I.T.S., XHP Manix LW, SB Caly 3, B70P, PMA11, K03, Kapara, REX 45 Military, 154CM Manix LW, Swick, AEB-L Urban, KC Cruwear Manix, M390 PM2, Mantra 2, CruCarta Shaman, M390 Manix, K390 Police 4, S90V Manix LW, Rex 45 Manix LW, 20CV Manix, Rex 45 Lil’Native, Shaman, C208GP, Cruwear Manix, Cruwear Manix, M4 Chief, Z-max!!!

Curious, have you held the Native Chief S90v Carbon Fiber sprint? Its the nicest Spyderco out of dozens that I have. I second the fluted CF for the Native Chief if it comes around in the future.

Would be cool to swap the scale with the upcoming Native 5 Magnacut since it’s linerless. Only bad thing is hard to see down the ocean floor if you drop it.

Unfortunately, my Spyderco experience is limited to what I purchase, so I have not had the opportunity to hold the CF Chief sprint. Had the SFO had them when I looked, I might’ve bought one.
