Thanks! Dremel with a stiff felt cylinder and a little Flitz. I probably could have gotten more of a mirror if I sanded it down first but I didn't have the balls to take sandpaper to a $280 Urban. lol

Nice work, looks awesome!
I was curious if polishing would mute the pattern contrast. Does it still look as good in person?

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
The contrast is muted but still very visible. In some lighting it's sort of reversed when it's reflecting something dark almost has a holographic look to it. I can try and get some better pics later but it's tough to photograph the way it looks in person.Buddafucco wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 11:31 ambbturbodad wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 11:23 amThanks! Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
Is the etch of the blade 'deep'? I mean - can it be felt when one runs fingernail across the pattern?
... I like weird ...

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
I don't have much to compare it to regarding depth but yes even after I polished mine I can feel the pattern with my fingernail.

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
It is layers of steel throughout the blade, so it’s as deep as it can be. The “etch” people refer to is mostly the patina on the non-stainless steel layers.
This is all, of course, coming from a fan who hasn’t done much looking into the science.

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
Damasteel doesn't have a non-stainless layer. The two steels used are RWL34 (similar to CPM 154) and PMC27 (similar to 12c27). Both are stainless. The use of multiple stainless alloys is one of the things that makes Damasteel 'special' compared to most Damascus type blades.

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
Damasteel etching produces a visible difference of surface color as one of the alloys in the pattern weld reacts differently to the etchant than the other.
However, this differential reaction can lead to tactile differences as well, as the reacting alloy is actually 'eaten away' from the ground/polished surface of the blade. Left in the etchant for extended periods, the blade will take on a 'cheese grater' feeling as the non-reacting alloy is left much higher than the reacting alloy.

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
Finally, I got mine. First impressions - it looks amazing. Both of them are perfectly aligned and centered. Can't really ask for more. As per usual, razor sharp out of the box. Obviously, I'll throw one of them on the stones as soon as i have time. Most likely the weekend. I still didn't use them for anything other than cutting arm hair. On a serious note - I can only say I'm impressed. For real. Thank you Sal and team Spyderco.

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
Are these Urbans similar to the HH Urbans that came out with the stubbier blade or the other versions?? These are looking rather "Squeakish" with the blade.

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
Yes. The blade length on these is 2.44" just like the HH exclusives.
The rest (excluding the wharncliffe) are 2.61"
404 s in 81 steel flavors.
Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
Probably a good thing for some in places with 2.5 inch blade restrictions.

Re: Damasteel Ivory G10 Urban
I prefer the Urban to be under 2.5" myself.
I hope the success of this run leads to a (3") UKPK in the same (or similar) pattern.

I'm not a huge fan of that particular pattern but it is pretty sweet!
