Dragonfly need to be updated - need input

Hi Sal, so the Dragonfly needs to be modernized? Please keep the choil as itmakes the knife very good to keep in the hand. Deeper.... I have no firm opinion about that , but keep it a possibility. On the spine I would like to see the contouring you did with the Calipso models. It realy stands out. Don't widen the blade. Would a mini version of the Ball-lock do the trick to rejuvenate this little rascal? (maybe with a damascus ball)
Detachable Micarta or damascus scales would definitely make this an up-scale gem. Steelwise I believe in offering VG-10 or even just the good old 440C because of its wonderfull corrotion resistance. Maybe time to think again about the Dendritic Steel from David!!! Nothing beats a mirror finished 440C blade!
Try to make the new model as thin as the SS Cricket and keep the lanyard hole or find an alternative sollution or an other possibility to attach a cord or chain. Fingergrooves on the spine would be a nice touch to facilitate more delicate cutting. I believe a little "growing-up" would not harm the Dragonfly. When ever a car gets an update - they grow in size also.

I would just about kill for a macarta Dragonfly! I don't care about the color, black will do just fine! VG-10 would be icen on the Dragonfly cake! RKBA! P.S. No wire clip, and no change in the blade configuration!

VG-10 plus thumb ridges would be great,plus drop the SE. A dressed up version w/the Kiwi's bone would be nice. I also really like the micarta idea. I really miss that handle material in the current lineup. Different FRN colors would help w/the sheeple angle.

Just a idea here but why not go for limited runs in the collage football market.Orange FRN Dragonfly with UT ingraved on the blade for this state.I am sure SMKWs would take quite a few.Also the wire clip would keep me away from it.I just haven't seen one yet I like.

No more gentleman folder... the kiwi is perfect for that, but why a spyderco for oppening one letter ? one finger make it good !!! Utility make the design, and it's good, so I don't think that the dragon fly gent'folder is a good idea. Make a little knife for excurtion in tropical rain forest, clip to the photo bag, in the pocket (not a military knife, it's too big !... like the MOSQUITO :

As a fan of the smaller spydies, the Dragonfly is one of my favorites

VG-10 with ridges on the spine (near the thumb hole) would be nice.

Since it's already a "gent's" size, why not go one further? Bone handles, maybe with a little <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Jigging? <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

The Dragonfly is a good size. I like that the handle is not much longer than the blade. If you make the handle slightly longer, lengthen the blade too. The thumb rest on the back of the blade and the choil should both have finger grooves - I've done that on mine and with the ergonomic handle, the knife fits my hand perfectly and is completely non-slip. Don't make the knife too expensive, too fancy or too big - it should be legal in most jurisdictions. Whatever type of clip is used, the knife should be unobtrusive. I'd rather have a knife that rides lower and is a bit slower to draw than a knife that rides high. If I want a knife to ride high, I'll get a bigger knife.

I think a dragongfly blade with fingergrooves on the handle, a la the navigator, would be great. Maybe even take a cue from the Gunting and Dodo, and make the handle a little larger than the knife.

I love my SS Dragonfly, so it's hard to suggest improvements.

Let's see,I like the Dragonfly as it is but if you're going to do an update, how about:

VG-10 with the same flat ground blade.(on all variations)
FRN, some new handle colors, I'd like to see a blue and maybe an emrald green. A reversable wire clip like the one on the Meerkat, I like the low profile of that clip.

SS, I can't think of much that I would do to this one other than VG-10.

How about some with Micarta handles? A burgundy and/or ivory color would look nice on this knife.

That's all I can think of right now.

JFM, on the OT, workin' on it for '04.

VG-10, full flat grind is for sure.

I doubt that we'd alter the pattern much, it has proven to be effective and unique. But as always, a "re-look" is best.

An FRN version would be a must. Probably a little 3D forming.

A 4 way wire clip might be an interesting challenge.

An "upbeat" sprint might be "fun run". Probably be a topic for another thread.

I appreciate your support and suggestions.

I am really enjoying the new Cricket with its framelock. The slim scales make it perfect for watchpocket carry. If the SS Dragonfly could be adapted to this lock It would be an even better choice for EDC with its flatground blade.

I wouldn't change anything on my carbon fiber Dragonfly.

...although the tooling looks pretty good on this one.

The handle of the Dragonfly has never fit well in my hand. I think it should be a little fuller without being longer. In the picture included I have moved the hole forward, added a barrel nut to act as a ferrule since this is often a keychain knife, and reshaped the top of the knife for more control. Spyderwa
