Hmm..
If we’re strictly defining model down to a specific model number (kind of have to, for it to be a duplicate), that spot is reserved for a future Rookie sprint.

Knives multiply fast enough even when sticking to one of each, so I generally try to avoid duplicates, but I f we a apply a more loose definition of “duplicate” to mean just the same base model/platform, I can come up with a short list:

Dragonfly 2: 3 (will be 4 when the k390 wharncliffe is released. Considering the HB as well).
Para 3: 2 (this is a weird one. Didn’t really like the model at first, now I like it a little bit, but two feels a bit excessive for that level of like. Might release one).
Native 5: 1 (atm, but seeing the S90V/fluted CF still in the catalog, I think I’ll grab one if it becomes available).

The Dragonfly is really the one to notice here. It’s a very good platform that really justifies owning a diversity of models.
The others are more accidental duplicates, I would say, and there is a real risk I will consolidate down to just one of each at some point.

I'm not really one to buy duplicates, but if I ever lost my Mantra 2, I would be kicking myself for not doing so.

Do steel variants count as duplicates? In a way you're not really buying the same knife if the steel changes the performance, or for example a plain edge vs a serrated edge may as well be completely different models based on performance.

I usually buy two of anything that's limited quantity, not to sell the second and realistically not even for a backup but because I figured my son or maybe grandkids will enjoy them someday, who knows.

I've got:

Military - 5
Para 2 - 2
Shaman - 2
Sliverax -3
Dyad Jr - 2
Calypso Jr - 2
Dragonfly - 3
Native 5 - 2
Yojimbo - 5 I think

I think duplicates probably make up at least a third of what I have if not closer to half.

Manix - 4
PM2 - 3
I whittled down my collection some time ago to concentrate of different models rather than repeating purchasing same knife . Absolutely nothing wrong having multiples of same knife if it something you enjoy .

the only duplicate in my collection is a ladybug, but you could hardly classify them as duplicates. the first is my first knife ever from the early 90s and the second is a hawkbill ladybug salt.

i like to have a diverse collection, but i plan on buying two more "duplicates" as soon as i can.

i want a g10 manix badly. i have a lw and i love the design, so i need a g10 version, obviously. i'm kind of holding out for an interesting steel that i don't already have, like spy27 or magnacut, but s30v is fine for my uses also.

i want a s35vn resilience. i like the resilience a lot and requested it in an upgraded steel a few times. i was hoping for d2, since it's used in a lot of chinese knives. how can i pass up s35vn? way better than i'd hope for.

other than these, i don't really have a reason to seek out and buy duplicates. even these aren't really duplicates, or at least not a purposeful collection of duplicates. i'd rather try different models.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I have duplicates of quite a few. All with different steels. I probably mainly buy duplicates because I’m a steel junky.

Military
Stretch
Native
Delica
Para2
Shaman
Chief
Caly3
Manix2
Mules

I have multiple Endura4s, Native5s and PM2s in different configurations of handle/blade steel. The only TRUE duplicate I have is the Wolfspyder. That’s my favorite Spyderco and I don’t think I could replace it very easily if something happens to it. So I had to buy a backup. I wanted to buy a third before they were gone, but was constantly too distracted with other models and releases.

I have multiples of several Golden models, mostly in unique material configurations...

Millie: 2
Gunting: 2
PM1: 3
PM2: 26
Native 5: 7
Chief: 9 (and keeping variant-complete in perpetuity)
Yo2: 4
Manix 2: 5
Para 3: 5
Shaman: 3

As far as exact duplicates, I have two Rex G-10 PM2s, two Rex DLC copper PM2s, and three Rex Chiefs. I also used to have multiple Mules and Delicas, but they got purged last year.

I don't have any EXACT duplicates. I honestly think it's a waste of money and opportunity for something else in the collection. These knives are made to last, with regular rotation nobody should wear any one, single knife out that they would require an exact copy.

That said,

Native Chief - 2
Para3 - 2
Shaman - 3
Manix - 3

Clearly Golden models are my favorite!
15 :bug-red 's in 10 different steels
1 - Bradford Guardian 3 / Vanadis 4E Wharnie
1 - Monterey Bay Knives Slayback Flipper / ZDP 189
1 - CRK Small Sebenza 31/Macassar Ebony Inlays
1 - CRK Large Inkosi Insingo/ Black Micarta Inlays
1 - CRK Small Sebenza 31 Insingo/Magnacut

Have parted with all duplicates (two exactly alike), otherwise:

Delica (36 and still growing, my favorite folder, bring on the K390 Wharnie!)
Native Chief (5 and still growing, my Golden collector knife)
UKPK (3, underrated and amazingly good and inexpensive)
Endura (2, the new kid on the block)
Chaparral (2, Sun/Moon may be my most admired Spyderco)
Stretch 1 (3 and dwindling to make room for others, the Endura has taken this one over)
PM2 (3 and dwindling to make room for others, no longer my Golden collector knife)
Mule Team (5, I hold onto these until I get a matching steel in a production knife)

:bug-red
