This may have been asked before, but can the Native Magnacut blade be switched out and put on G10 scales or does the fact that its a LW knife prevent the use of aftermarket scales?
You would need the back spacer that’s on the g10 models. The LW does not have one. Otherwise I’m not sure if the blades are compatible.
Does the Spyderco FRN take well to dying, and if so, where would I buy some dye that would do the job? I like the Native 5 LW, but I hate the bright yellow scales. I'm intending for it to be a gentleman's carry, so would want it a dark color. the other option is Chaparral LW but I prefer MC to Xhp.
FRN takes dye real easy. This was a deep indigo in 4 minutes. Capful of Rit in a Solo cup with near boiling water is the recipe. Leave it to steep as long as you like. ImageImageImage

Lots of people have had luck with RIT dye. The yellow has grown on me, I’ve been carrying it daily.

Just ordered the plain edge from eBay, it's a good dealer with 100% rating. They have about a dozen available. Seller is robcoknivesllc
. Evidently no longer available. But it is good to see the product getting distributed after a long wait. I'm assuming it will be more available than "a dozen" at various retailers over the next couple of weeks.
Actually they are not dropping yet. I received a refund and apology message from the seller, the plain edge listing was an accident and I was told it should drop in a few more weeks. They also said they would reserve one for me and to top it off only charge me the price they get it for, so no complaints here. Now I just need to hunt for a different magnacut knife to buy, because at this point my curiosity about the steel is just too high.
The Hogue Deka with MC is a good option, I ordered mine a few months after I ordered my Native Salt, and I've had the Deka for 10 months.....

I'd probably opt for the Blade HQ Ultem exclusive right now, but the regular plastic + aftermarket scales is good too, if a bit pricier.

Just casually looking on the SFO site, native 5 plain edge is available to any lucky sole.

That's beautiful. I'd buy that in a factory color.

I AM EFFFING PISSED! I saw this message and immediately went to the SFO site and started to process my order. In that process I got a call at work and it took about 5 minutes. In that time they're sold out of the plain edge. FML.

I’ll keep an eye out and PM you if I see it again.
I’m gonna hold out for a salt PM2.

The Spyderco Salt series will be expanded with a Para Military 2. There truly will be a Para Military 2 for any occasion I guess, with all the variants we’ve seen so far, and now one for maritime use. This production sample featured black peel-ply G-10 handle scales, finished with a design of bidirectional grooves. According to Eric, the overall plan is to make a Salt version of every knife, made in the US factory. And although it’s hard to make out in these photos, I had a hard time getting a good shot of the engraving, the blade will be made of MagnaCut. The liners and all other hardware were coated black.

I definitely missed that in the thread and I even looked through it. I had no idea they were planning a salt for the major lines. I would definitely prefer a PM2 over a Native 5 in magnacut. Thanks for pointing me out and probably saving me some money.

So it looks like a few plain edge ones will be filtering to market? Good news. Hoping to get one for summer for those times when 15V isn't quite the right fit!

I just happened to be on their website checking whether the 15V Shaman and/or this knife was released yet. I check everyday and sometimes several times a day. I just got lucky because it appears they didn't have very many to offer.
