i'd much rather spend $600 on four knives because i like variety and i wouldn't be any more settled with one $600 knife than i am with one $150 knife.

I hear you. I like variety as well which explains why I have so many.

Re: Spyderco sebenza/hinderer love child.
I don't know...I seem to be in the minority here. I think the Sebenza's thumb studs are just fine. The only "Spyderco-ization" I'd like to see with the Sebenza is more steel variety. Although even there, nothing wrong with S35VN.
A CRK/Spyderco collaboration would most definitely pique my interest, but I couldn't say off-the-bat whether or not I'd actually buy it.

There is obviously a market for this knife because they sell out and are popular. The market is not the issue. There is just not a supply of this niche with a Spyderco hole unless you mod it.

Re: Spyderco sebenza/hinderer love child.
Personally, I don't feel that CRK's designs are inherently advantageous - in fact, most of the time I prefer Sal's designs (and price points). However, I do also appreciate CRK's designs, and I greatly appreciate the build quality of the CRK knives - they feel so nice! Whether that comes from material selection, engineering, tight tolerances, or all of the above, the build quality is very high.
One problem with the standard "drill out the thumb stud hole" approach is that the amount of steel left between the hole and the spine is rather thin. Another is that, much like the Native 5, the hole is in line with the handle, when it would be more eronomic to add thumb ramp and move the hole off to the side (see the Delica, Stretch, PM2, pretty much any ramped Spyderco design).
I would love a Sebenza with a Spydie-hole from the factory. I would love a little thumb ramp to help out with the opening ergonomics, similar to how these folks modified a Benchmade 940.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Re: Spyderco sebenza/hinderer love child.
There won’t ever be one. Tim is running the show over there now, he’s reached out to all modders and makers and has told them to stop putting a hole in his blades. A Hinderer is a totally different knife then the others. They are each and all great knives. But their will never be a Sebenza killer, or Hinderer killer. And let’s not get started on the Slysz Bowie, it’s not even in the same world or ballpark as a Sebenza
If you are interested in a Sebenza/Hinderer love child PM me, I don’t feel comfortable talking other brands here and I’ve probably already overstepped, but I hope not.

Not thinking of killing anything but having a level of knife that is on par with some of the better production knives but utilizes the spyderco hole we love to use. Maybe titanium scales, titanium screws and stand offs with a compression lock?

That 940 up there is sick! I'd love to have that one.

Evil D wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 4:35 amCall me stubborn, I just refuse to buy a knife that uses a thumb stud. I don't care if they still work, I don't care if a hole weakens the blade. I like what I like and for the price of those brands I refuse to compromise. Like I just said in another thread, when CRK make a Sebenza with a proper thumb hole, then I'll consider it, and even then there are other design hurdles I'd have to get over first.
I find it harder and harder to justify ‘to myself’ purchasing a non Spydiehole folding knife. The functional ergonomic aspect is what appeals to me.

I think the closest that I will get in the short term is titanium scales and back spacer for my Shaman.

I had a post removed and was almost banned from the CRK Facebook group for asking a question about Sebenzas with the Spyder-hole. There is a 3rd-party CRK Mods group for crazy people like us who like round holes.

Oh he did. I don’t want to go down that hole. Tim is going to sink CRK.

Re: Spyderco sebenza/hinderer love child.
I bought a Large Spydiebenza user off the Exchange and it's basically my perfect knife. It's a shame that a production version will likely never happen. It's like the Sebenza was designed for the hole.
I stopped posting pictures when I carry it because I'm not sure where Spyderco stands with this, but this thread seems like an appropriate place to put these...
