Swayback swoon and top flipper dreams

#1

Post by Fireman »

I admit it. I swooned over the swayback. :woozy
I did not know it was that big and my larger hands actually liked it even though it is not a large knife. I would want a deep cary clip for it but what an amazing execution of a wharnie style hollow grind knife! I wish it could come in a top flipper design to make it more fidgety because I fidget 10-100 times to actually using it to cut things. It is a gorgeous knife. I may end up trying to find one on the secondary market. Does anyone else wish it was a top flipper? Wishes are just reality waiting for someone to do the hard work. I have seen some great fidgety swayback’s but ****, the spyderco swayback blade is just so **** good.

I have a lot of different flippers so I kind of like that I have to open the Swayback by using the thumbhole
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

I've never had a Spyderco flipper that I liked 100 percent, so I'd have to pass on a front flipper variant. The Spydie hole works fine for me, and I agree that the Swayback is a great design.

Only if it's a 3.2" 3oz version.

Otherwise I like the Swayback as is with deep carry clip.
So it goes.

My knives are used for their intended purpose, cutting things. Knives are cutting tools, not fidget toys. Flippers are stupid.

Your best bet is the Monterey Bay Knives, Slayback Flipper. Not currently in stock, but close to what you'd like. Also $70 cheaper than a Swayback and has ZDP 189 steel.

Just because a flipper tab isn’t YOUR preferred opening method doesn’t mean they’re stupid. There are a lot of companies that make them and a lot of people who enjoy them.

Tolerance. A virtue. Always sad to see it was not gifted to everybody.

A $5 utility knife can do most people’s EDC needs but where is the fun in that? Modern knives in some way are like women’s shoes. They still function as shoes but they are more than just shoes to women and society. As far as fidgeting, we can’t always use our knives unless that is part of you job. Handling, admiring and playing with our knives can give us satisfaction and joy beyond opening amazon prime packages. Everyone has different needs, tastes, budgets and uses. I am glad we have such variety. Knives are a hobby as well as a tool.
