Quirky Factory Second Knives

#1

Post by Pokey »

I picked up some knives at the second sale today. It was easy to tell why these two were seconds, so I just had to have them. Other than what you see below, they’re flawless.

The black/black Native 5 was lased twice on one side of the blade, and the Thin Blue Line Delica 4 should have a CE, VG-10 blade, and a black clip on it. It has a PE, regular S90V blade and a chrome clip.

You're right! It turns out they were an Exclusive. There was quite a bit of interest in them a couple of years ago, but no info on the KnifeWorks website, now. Country Knives still has them. ;)

In light of what you've said, Buddafucco, this one doesn't look like a Factory Second at all.

The first one should be known as the "ECHO" version... :)

The what?

(I say that in reference to the old Clint Eastwood movie "Every Which Way But Loose." In the movie "Echo" is his brother's girlfriend. When Clint's character asks her what her name is she says "Echo." Clint says, "What?" and she has to repeat her name again. The line gets repeated later in the movie. ;) )

When I hold the knife at the right angle it makes me want to grab a pair of 3D glasses. :spiral-eyes

I almost snagged a Z-wear Mule that wasn't labeled with the type of steel. Sadly, I had way more in my basket than my credit card could support, lol.

The weirdest thing I saw was a Chinese model knife with coating on only one side of the blade.

Wonderful, now I can add "double-lasered spyderco" to the list of things my goblin brain desires. Makes me feel paternal, like a stray cat.

Really gotta get to that sale next year!

I was sorting through my basket getting ready to throw some back, (not literally; you gotta throw back a few for breeding, ya know) :winking-tongue and a young guy stopped by to look at the throw-backs. I was grading them and pointing out possible blemishes, narrowing it down to 2 or 3 keepers of each model. (That's when it gets hard and becomes a toss-up.)

He pulled out a couple of St. Nick's exclusive PM2's. One had the black DLC coating buffed off down to the metal on one side of the blade from the ricasso to the tip. He thought it was a factory flaw that the blade didn't get coated, until I pointed out that the bug was gone, too. The rest of the laser markings were there. I don't know if there was a price difference, but he knew then which one he was throwing back. ;)

I saw another one w/o the model, only marked as MT 26 (which is PMA11) in Sharpie. I've got one, so I passed.

Haha that was my first thought too! It actually made me a little dizzy. I'd own that one just for the fun factor
