Went all in on S110V

Post by Archimedes »

I went with the full series and these knives will they be my EDC knives for the foreseeable future.

IMG_7207.jpeg
The Military is probably my favorite all around knife design. Perfect for food prep.

The Para 2 is the perfect carry knife for days when I am out and don't plan on using my knife as much as it carries better in the pocket.

The para 3 for days when I need to be legal.

Perfection.

I would only up grade if Spyderco makes this series in Carbon Fiber handles.

I also will be looking for a fixed blade in S110V.

Good looking crew 👍

Is there an experience or one of those models that made you decide to go all in?

My favorite series of knives is the Military and Para Military. They are perfect knives for me and then I decided the steel I want to use is S110V. So I decided to retire my other Military and Para Military and go with this steel.

Cool! I had an S110V Military for awhile. Now I've got a LW Manix in the steel.

I have the Military in S110V and I bought a kydex sheath for it that deploys the blade as you draw the knife! The guys business name is Black Bear Custom Kydex Sheaths if you're interested.

It's a wonderful steel and it's a smart collection.

You *DO* need to add a S110V Manix, though!

I have one. A light weight, I bought years ago. Just did not love the light weight version. It is still in my collection, though.

There is a guy in Russia (don't remember his name) that makes CF scales. They are a little pricey, but I have really enjoyed them.

Bangers CF scales for sure ! It's really good work, a friend has some and there is no strand of CF loose. Everything is smooth and the shape of the handle becomes really pleasant.

As for S110V I'm putting it against S90V lately. I had a hard time finding out what kind of edge suited S110V the best for me and my use.
So far, it's not that different, I've only noticed (when looking closely) that my S90V CF N5 tends to lose razor sharp edge faster than my S110V N5 LW.

After my love period with Maxamet, I'll put in more time between these two steels :nerd

Great collection btw !
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

The only one of the 3 of those you've displayed that I currently own is the Blurple, S110V, Para2 model. But it is one of my favorites of all the Para2 models I currently own. I actually like S110V. To me it's very similar to the old ZDP-189 in many aspects.

I'm a fan of so many of the great blade steels that Crucible has. I like S110V and S90V both for EDC uses. I would love a small fixed blade with S110V at some point.

I tried ZDP-189 and still have a Delica around in that steel, but I found that it chipped at the edge and was not as tough as I would like. I am hoping S110V is tougher than ZDP. So far it seems a lot tougher.

The S110V seems to be holding an edge exceptionally well and that is what I am hoping for.

That's a great set! How do you like the steel so far?

I had dreams of doing the same with the Seki-made ZDP models, but the closest I came was a Stretch & a Dragonfly.

Now I have a PM2, Para 3, and Dragonfly in K390, and am waiting anxiously for a K390 Military model to be announced.

The Military is a fantastic design. I have one in CTS-204p and it's one of my most-carried knives.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I am loving the steel. I was carrying PM2 and Military in S30V for the last few years. I was always touching up on the sharp maker to keep them sharp. The S30V is a good steel and a light touch up brought them back to sharp very quickly. Now with the S110V I have not needed a touch up as the edge is holding very well. I wanted long term edge holding and so far so good.

I don't abuse my knives but they are used all the time.

I couldn’t agree more with this.

Another Military is something I have really been looking forward to. I hope we eventually see it in more steels. I hardly ever use mine without being reminded why it’s my favorite model.
