The Sage5 continues to be the best implementation of a compression lock I have ever had... Super smooth action with perfect tolerances, no lock stick, and that extra angle on the lock tab is a little touch that makes a big difference.

Good to know...I don't have a lot of comp locks so am pleased I got a good one. Agree with your review. Regards photos, most the photos I'm looking at in this thread have more blue in them than my Sage has. Many photos look more blue-green...mine is definitely green...closest to MRJ's photos, but more vibrant. Must be my monitor.
Yes mine too just the yellowish lighting in the room I took the pics in made it seem a lil less vibrant. They IMO looks more mint .

can you share a pic of the thickness? i've been wanting to try a chaparral, but i think the sage might be better for me.
Hi L'Bug. Until I can get you a pic, here are thickness dimensions without clip and avoiding screw heads:

Chap: .322"
Sage: .411"

ADDED: ...blade, at thick point just over the hole...
Blade Chap: .077"
Blade Sage: .117"

Even though you made this easy with the color swatches (thanks), it still was a trick because the lighting from the computer screen and the lighting in the room are not the same. Holding the Sage up to the swatches, however, I'd say split the difference between seafoam and mint, or maybe a bit more in the direction of seafoam.

What do the rest of you with SageMint think?

Not sure I will keep this up...
Say it ain't so, Abba! That's a stunning collection and I DL'd your photo to desktop so I can enjoy your sage collection whenever the need arises!

(PS: Nice photo Anycal!)

Family Resemblance?

Now, who was asking for a "Lil Sage"?
I don't think there is any need for a "lil Sage" when the Chaparral is so good. It is my go-to gift Spyderco.

I would consider a larger one, but honestly I think the Manix 2 fits this role quite well.

These Sage photos have me thinking I will eventually pick up a Sage if they keep keep the variations going.

I can’t hate on the USPS today. Here two days early…

My first Sage and I like it! I think I like it more than I do FRN so it could be a candidate for some micarta scales (if someone makes them?) or a swap into the factory CF scales.

I agree the lock on this is excellent

Really like this one, however am going to wait for the version with the DLC blade
You're sure there's going to be a coated version? You don't see too many coated variations coming out of Taichung. For those they've done weren't they actually TiCN?
Well that's what I get for not reading the paperwork that comes in the box 🙂

Thinking about it I'm not sure I like the idea of a Sage with a coated blade. For some reason I've always considered the Sage more of a gents knife and coated blade just doesn't seem right. That said, I'll probably end up with one of those too. I don't think the coated blade will look very good with the minty green handle but it might if I dye the handle a different color

I am trying to decide whether I force a patina on the M4. What is your opinion?

Here is a patina I forced on a hacking knife, but I dunno if the M4 would do similar.

Also wondering what a dark blade with a light mint handle would look like. Maybe nice.

Mine should be here tomorrow. I was finally able to handle a Sage 5 yesterday at the seconds sale, wish I would have taken it home. My suspicions were right, I like it so much more than the Para 3. I could have swapped scales but I'm sure I'll be able to warm up to them.

Actually, I kinda think a coated blade, especially black, would really offset those scales. Patina, hmm, don't know what to tell you. I kinda like a natural patina, but did once force a patina on a Cold Steel Carbon V blade. I liked it but it was subtle.

Yeah you're probably right. So much of this knife stuff is all personal preference anyway. Like I said I'll probably get one of those too. I can always dye the scales if I want

As far as Para 3 LW vs. Sage 5 LW FRN. As much as I like the Para 3 LWs I agree that the Sage 5 FRN is a better knife overall

Just got mine in. Taichung continues to impress: perfect centering, rock solid lockup, zero lock stick, even edge bevel, shaving sharp, etc. Just an outstanding specimen. I missed the Sage!

I can not believe that these are still in stock. I just couldn’t resist and ordered another one tonight to have as a backup. Takes away the nervousness of potentially damaging one and not being able to replace it. If you’re on the fence don’t hesitate to get one. The Sage 5 is in my top 3 Spyderco list.

I wonder if there will be more Sage 5 LW exclusives to follow? I really want one in something besides S30V and black scales. The mint scales are fine, but I'm not excited about M4.

Mine came today. Here's another color compare to the teal S90V LW.

I gotta say, as my first Sage, it prolly won't be my last. Something nice about the feeling of the full liners vs the minmized micro-liner of the P3LW. It makes for better balance in the hand. The Taichung FRN has a nicer texture than the Golden. It's thinner throughout compared to the P3LW. I've loved M4 in my GB1, so I can't see how I won't love this Sage5LW.
