Chief or Yojumbo.

Chief is definitely one of the best EDC folders if you prefer a larger blade. Very refined backlock, wonderful ergos, nice and light, and a good edge to handle ratio for a design featuring a choil.

The Yojumbo surprised me. Expected to like it - didn't expect it to be the one knife I keep on my nightstand next to my other EDC items, while the others sit in a dedicated knife drawer. It quickly became my go to daily carry. Excellent cutting ability, unique but comfy ergonomics, effortless piercing ability, perfect detent on the comp lock, tons of cutting edge with no choil.

The Phoenix Sprint. Hands down my favorite purchase of 2021. Took a bit to get there with it, but it really is my KOTY2021.

Since I started this post I should weigh in my favorite of the year . The Lefty PM2 for me has to be my top favorite, followed closely by the Manix 2 DLT M390 . I have to force myself to put something different in my pocket , they are both very appealing to me . So far there has been diversity and that says a lot about Spyderco’s drive to fill everyone’s taste in knives . Regards, MG2

My recently acquired gray Manix 2 Cruwear, with a honorable mention to my K390 Endela.

Fantastic tag team duo!

The K390 Endela is my favorite but I always carry my ZDP DF2 as well.

If I had to carry only one, it would probably be my Chap!

Cru-carta PM2. I wasn't a PM2 fan until this version. The liners, micarta, larger tab, and steel made me a fan. Great upgrade to an already iconic model! And a great price to boot!

Native Chief (Rex45)

I carry it way more than I thought I would. The long blade with great ergos in a slim and light package, it’s hard to go wrong.

K390 Endela would be second it could easily be most people’s “one and done” EDC knife.

I'm torn between my DLT Cru Wear Tuff and Cutlery Shoppe XHP Shaman, which I put SDK maroon micarta scales on. Both have a place in my pocket (heart).

i would say the knife i carried the most throughout the last year is the caribbean. it's not my favorite, but it's a really good knife and it works well for when i only want to carry one knife instead of two.

i've said it before, but i'll repeat it here again... the caribbean combines some of my favorite aspects of my favorite spydercos into a single package. there's a slight belly like the manix, there's a compression lock like the yojimbo, and it's a serrated salt like the pacific salt. it also has a sheepsfoot blade, which makes it good for emergency purposes and still useful for edc, and a neutral grip that fills my hand and inspires confidence in use.

i have to also say the caribbean is the smoothest knife i've ever owned. it's a lot of fun to play with.

It’s hard enough trying to think back on what I’ve carried the last year, but keeping track of which knives I’ve bought when is even harder.
But I won’t lie to such a nice audience, so I did the only responsible thing and reviewed my order history everywhere I buy knives.

One obvious takeaway from that review, which surprised me in a positive way, is that I actually didn’t buy too many knives this year.

The candidates are:
-Manix 2 G10 Rex 45
-Salt 2 FFG
-CS Chief Ltd. CTS-XHP

They are all good, no worries there. But as much as I enjoy using the big dogs, my bias towards lighter weight is confirmed yet again.
Salt 2 FFG is my Spyderco of the year.

Some may laugh, and that's ok, but my 2021 Spydie of the year is this little demon....

Image

I have a handful of Manbug-sized knives and this morning I went to change out the wharnie Manbug to a different one. So I opened the drawer to my desk and pulled out my ZDP Manbug and set it on my desk next to my wallet. As I was getting ready to leave for work a few minutes later I put the ZDP back in the drawer and put the wharnie in my pocket. Not sure those others will see much pocket time anymore

If I had to choose a bigger knife that I bought in 2021 it would probably be the K390 Endela. Unfortunately the Endela's seen little pocket time since I bought it. So it's not eligible to be a candidate. The SPY27 Manix 2 LW is also in the running but it's really not a new model to me. So I didn't count that one either. Both are great knives though

Getting the perfect knife is iffy when you have to buy on the web. BUT, when the Chief emerged from the box, my big paws new that they had found "The One". Big enough for any reasonable task and small enough to fit my pocket after a year of every day testing the Chief has a home. I have Chiefs in S90v and REX 45 but have never carried either. S30v is the old war horse steel that helped make Spyderco what it is. Thats the one I carry and it has never disappointed me in any way.

You won’t see me laughing. The Manbug Salt was my 2020 knife of the year and I’m now on the verge of getting one of those MB wharnies myself.
The K390 DF2 wharnie is the little big wharnie I was planning to acquire, but the longer it takes to bring it to market, the more tempted I am of the Manbug.

First place for me is my gb2, added some micarta scales and a titanium deep carry clip. 2nd place k390 endura with titanium deep carry clip. Im also digging my spydiechef I got a couple weeks ago. Plus I should have my crucarta pm2 any day now so.....there is still time in 2021 for things to shuffle a bit.
