Manix 2 XL LW?

#1

Post by PocketShredder »

Is this something that would interest you? I've got plenty of love for the current G-10 Manix 2 XL. I don't even mind the amount of real estate it takes up in my pocket, but its weight keeps me from carrying it most of the time (at least for daily carry).

Take away the front finger choil area to give a longer sharpened edge area too :winking-tongue
The Manix 2 XL is awesome. I wish I had one but the millie has a better weight to blade ratio for me.

I voted yes with liners. I’d love to see it in that translucent blue like the CTSBD1N Manix LW.

Agree with Fireman; put the "choil" back into the handle further, leave more edge on the blade. There's room on the XL to do that.

I'm experiencing a big conversion and am interested in LW versions of just about anything. I can carry a larger knife if it's LW.

As always when this comes up: YES!

And of course linerless, since the Manix 2 LW shows how perfectly this can be done.
I mean "LW" and then NOT really saving weight by still giving it liners would feel strange to me.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I am glad that lately more and more people express their wish to give folders more cutting edge/ as much cutting edge as technically possible.
For me more edge is always a pro, never a con in a general EDC folder.

How this can be done without sacrificing something else though is most times by using "dead space" in the handle imho (so by making the blade filling the whole handle when closed).
If the choil of the Manix XL would be moved further back though, this would probably not leave enough space behind that choil on the handle for larger hands?
So if the choil would get less blade and more handle part, probably that "hook" at the handle end of the XL would have to be moved further back too (like on the Stretch 1 for example).

The M2LW has never needed liners. It was an award winning knife when it came out. It is very strong. I don't think an XL needs liners, either.

Since it's FRCP, the Manix 2 LW has almost no flex and is strong and durable. Maybe the bigger size of the XL wouldn't change it much.

Been interested in a LW XL for years. Would prefer no liners or partial liners if they could pull it off.

Give the M2XL a steel upgrade - MagnaCut comes to mind, or 4V. But please keep it with G10.

I said no. I like the weight of a large blade. In fact I'd like to see a thicker blade stock, like the shaman, in the XL. What a beast that would be

as much as i love the manix, the xl doesn't really do it for me. i prefer the way the handle comes to a point at the clip on the manix 2. it sits very nicely in pocket and the xl just doesn't. i thought i'd prefer the xl, but once i tried it, it was not as good for me.

i wouldn't vote no though. if people like the xl and it works for them, why would i cast a "no" vote?

Lightweight without full liners was my vote. The Manix XL is huge, but it doesn’t need to be heavy. If Spyderco offered one as proportionally light as the Manix 2 LW, I’d have to get one.

Count me in for no liners , that is what a lwt is all about ,saving weight . I agree with some of these comments , Just my opinion but this is a knife one should check out and handle before purchasing one . If you are not into big knifes and not willing to sacrifice pocket space regardless of weight this knife may not be for you . Personally I think it is a fantastic idea . MG2

I've had examples of G10 Manix and FRCP Manix over the past 4 or so years, and I definitely prefer the LW platform. Mostly because the liners on the G10 Manix are kind of insane feeling sometimes with all that jimping (I don't have the need for all that gripitude but certainly many customers value this attribute)
I felt that the weight and those liners did not help the case of the XL Manix I used to own; I would have to know what the potential of a LW XL is and so would of course buy one if it was produced.

Perhaps a linerless slab G10 XL would be a compromise.
