What's missing from the Salt line

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

The Salt series is pretty good and there are sizes from the Ladybug to the Pacific. One thing that is missing is a midsized knife the size of the Urban Light Weight, be it a back lock or a Slipit. I wonder if there are any plans to fill this void?

I suppose they could make a Salt Native Chief once the LW version is released. The Salt Police would be welcome in my book.

Well, isn´t that void already filled with the UKPK Salt?!

What´s still missing is a "middle ground" Salt knife - for me it should be the Endela (see here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85893), many would like to see the Stretch fill that role
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I like the idea of a salty Stretch. Drop point or straight spine?

No, the UKPK is a Salt 2 sized knife. The Urban is a good bit shorter and more compact.

Thanks, Doc!

Was not aware of that, thought the two´d be pretty similar (UKPK and Urban)

I have Salt 2, Tasman Salt, and Pacific Salt. Also a Manbug with the rescue type blade and half a dozen Hawkbill Ladybugs.

Salts on my to purchase list are the DF2, one PE and one Hawkbill, and a Native 5.

The Dragonfly 2 Salt currently fills that size category. There is also a Dragonfly 2 Hawkbill Salt that is available.

There has been speculation about an LC200N Lil Native Salt ever since the Ben Shot Lil Native Glasses were introduced. Maybe that could end up being another addition to that size category.

Seems like the Native 5 is pretty close.

Technically (for some also practically) a really large Salt knife is also missing, right?

The Caribbean could be this when it comes to sole cutting edge, but I mean a Salt with overall millie-ish size (Police Salt perhaps?!)

I wouldn't complain if Spyderco only offered LC200N knives going forward. 😁

The Lil Native is a bit girthy for my tastes. I'd love to see something like the Chaparral or even the Baby Jess Horn with a rustproof blade.

Living on the coast I see lots of fellas carrying "gentleman's knives" with rusty or pitted blades. Not necessarily from boating but just the conditions.

I like that Toxic Green the USN Salt Ladybug came in. A translucent version of that in an M2 would be sweet. I love my translucent 20CV M2. In fact, I'm gonna EDC it for the remainder of today.

6. Chap LW Salt

For the Chap Salt, do you make the liners out of TI or do you DLC the normal steel liners? Does it make a difference?

I'd assume Ti or LC200N liners.
