Gifted an old spyderco

#1

Post by MortySanchez »

Im new to this forum so im not really sure how it all works so I apologize if I mess something up. I was recently given a spyderco police model. I was told a little about the knife but it was an old one a friend didn’t really want. It’s got an older style rectangular pocket clip and has SEKI-CITY on one side and SPYDERCO GIN-1 STAINLESS on the other. It’s got a nearly full serrated edge and has almost a spearpoint for the last inch or so. Someone who know about these please help me figure out what I have.

Sounds like you pretty much know exactly what you have? It's an earlier Police model, good knife. Not worth a fortune if that's what you're asking but well worth using.

A fully serrated Police model would be a great "work knife" depending on what type of jobs you encounter. But if I found an old GIN-1, full SE Police model at a modest price I would grab it ASAP.

Depending on the previous wear & tear that knife would probably have years of usage left in it. And Welcome To The Forum by the way!!

SE stainless, GIN-1 stamp, POLICE on the blade but the lanyard hole is gone again.

If it looks like this, it dates between 1994 and 1998.

Glad I could help. GIN-1 is the steel Spyderco built their reputation on. It may seem outdated to us (the knife knuts of the world) but it is still better than most of the cutlery steel on the market today. I still carry a first generation serrated Police in GIN-1 most days, and it's still going strong.
