First Compression Lock?
Re: First Compression Lock?
I’m not entirely sure, but I think it was the Spyderco Vesuvius?

Re: First Compression Lock?
C69 Bram Frank Gunting
From Spydiewiki http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?tit ... nk_Gunting...
"Bob Taylor and Bram Frank had a falling out while we were in the middle of developing the project with Bram and Bob backed out of the Rolling lock negotiation. We were already well into the Bram Frank design, which he called the "Gunting" and felt we had to honor our commitment to Bram. We needed to create a new lock that was strong enough for our Marital Blade Craft rating. That's when I invented the Compression lock (on demand) to meet our need. We produced a live knife, a trainer and a trainer with a blue handle to meet Bram's needs."

Yup, definitely the C68 Gunting. First production live blades and red trainers are dated October 2000.

Thank you.
I had a Salsa. Should have remembered that.
Love the compression lock, my favorite.

Re: First Compression Lock?
My first (and last) compression lock was the left hand PM2. This was (is) a great knife. I really liked it. My Granddaughter brought her 2 year old son to visit. I went to grab my belt on the kitchen table and knocked my PM2 onto the floor. When it hit the floor, the blade popped open about halfway. Little Dean came running. He squealed “I’ll get it Poppy!” I managed to step on the knife before he could grab it. I have never been able to carry that knife since then. Perhaps my PM2 had a faulty detent. It was my fault that I made it fall. I’m sure the compression lock has passed rigorous testing. But, the Native Chief that replaced it only opens when I tell it to.
