I try not to criticize Spyderco too often, the last time I was recall was with the ugly left hand carry clip holes on the swayback and I'm over that.

One thing has been bugging me for a while though, I would like to add a trainer Delica to the collection but I just cannot get over the price on the trainers. $84 for the Delica, $154 for the Yojimbo, $217 for the P'kal.

Anyone else feel like these are about twice what they should be?
Seems like one could just buy a used Delica and grind the edge and point off.

Even with the edge and tip removed, a normal Delica is still ground too thin to be safely used as a trainer. The thickness of the Trainers blade is intentional.

The trainers cost the same (or nearly the same) as the actual knives for a reason. You get what you pay for. They still have to work reliably for serious physical training. They also have a distinctive look (the blades, red handle scales, etc.) that sets them apart from live knives, for safety reasons. IMO, it would make zero sense, even financially, to buy a perfectly good Delica, or any other knife that has a corresponding trainer, and grind off the edge and tip to make it into a trainer, when there are already purposely-designed trainers.

I don’t think that it costs that much less to make a trainer version so I wouldn’t expect the price to be much lower.

Why not just cover the edge of a regular knife with tape? That's what I usually do when doing a scale or blade swap. Just to be a little safer. Works great!

I have never carried any knife (or much of anything else) in a back pocket. I hate sitting down on anything in my back pocket. Also, IMO, things in back pockets are more easily snatched or lost.

Jim

FWIW, I carried a Pioneer in the back pocket all day, spent a lot of time sitting on PT, (seats are usually thinly padded or not padded), yet I didn't notice it at all. It was lying horizontally in the bottom.

Anyone else do knife tricks to entertain their 3yr old? (from a safe distance of course) 😁

My daughter likes to watch me free hand sharpen. She says the sound is "very satisfying" (9 years old)

My nieces like to play "teeth or no teeth" with my collection. They point to a knife for me to open and they guess if it has teeth or not.

My 8 year old son says the same thing about the sound of various knives make while opening, especially the s90v chief.

The only issue I have carrying any of my Spyderco knives in my back pocket is my wallet getting in the way. I regularly carry a SAK or an Opinel there. It's just in the shape.

Then maybe the Manix 2 back lock might be worth a try ;)

If I don't find a non DLC Autonomy 1 in stock at a reasonable price soon, this is gonna be a reality. The urge is getting the best of me. I'd rather do it with a non coated blade though.

Haha! Anyone else use the super high power "xcelerator" hand dryers to blow out their EDC blades?

I got tired of buying cans of compressed air and bought an electric computer duster that has come in handy more than expected. So yeah, I'm not a fan of lint in my knives either...
So it goes.
