Re: Random: General Spydie Chat
On the shaving & blade fracturing article above:
"The researchers have filed a provisional patent on a process to manipulate steel into a more homogenous form, in order to make longer-lasting, more chip-resistant blades.
“The basic idea is to reduce this heterogeneity, while we keep the high hardness,” Roscioli says. “We’ve learned how to make better blades, and now we want to do it.”"
So it seems that the powder metallurgy technologies may have already covered this ground, unless the MIT boffins have come up with something novel.

When they say they’re expanding the facilities in Golden, they mean it!
It looks like you could fit the current SFO in this new building twice!

It'll be interesting seeing how the output increases over the next five years.

I usually prefer to keep my knives stock and don’t do any aftermarket modding but I just recently purchased my first LynchNW clip for a PM2 and I like it a lot. Something about having a new clip makes me want to carry the knife more.

I was unaware of the "Micarta" finish option. That's pretty sweet!Mushroom wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 3:16 pmI usually prefer to keep my knives stock and don’t do any aftermarket modding but I just recently purchased my first LynchNW clip for a PM2 and I like it a lot. I’m excited to see how it looks when the scales are more worn in.

I feel like I need that for my Smock with the burlap micarta scales!

That is a cool clip Nick. I'm not sure what it is about the PM2 and Para 3, but I feel I have to put a different clip on those.

I was thinking it would probably match burlap better too.

Very cool though Nick! I had no idea he was making clips like that. Pretty cool for a rare for you mod!

Re: Random: General Spydie Chat
Thanks! I think you guys are right about it matching the burlap micarta well, too. That style clip and some Bronze hardware would look sweet on that Smock! It would give it a nice rustic aesthetic.

How's the detent on the ATR2?
I loved the original besides the slick scales. The 2 fixed that but came out when I wasn't buying comp locks.
On a scale of caribbean to yojumbo, how stiff is the detent?
I found one for a good price considering they're disco'd and I'm quite tempted.

Re: Random: General Spydie Chat
Interesting indeed, since the biggest problems being given as to why production has been so low over the past couple of years hasn't actually pertained to not having the space, oddly enough (staffing issues, supply chain issues..). At least from what little info I've gathered from the forum here. It's hard to believe that sprint runs have eaten up so much capacity, when new models have seemed to decrease within the pipeline, even after discontinuation of product. At least when comparing to "reveals" (or plain old releases) of years past. That would lead me to believe the focus was just re-centered around a different business modelling (existing, top selling product versus new, usually lack-luster or at least subpar selling product); but that's just my take. We'll see what this means for possible expansion and growth of new models, or just a constant production of the same old, same old, always available in stock.

Nick, you pushed me over the edge and I had to have a couple of these. Put them in the cart days ago and didn't pull the trigger. I like the clip a lot so far and now I have a Military with a broken clip, so I’m thinking about trying out one of the Lynch clips for that as well.

I think it's going to look good on the fluted Native, so fingers crossed. I've been lucky and haven't broken any clips yet, I do have some spare oem pm2's and 3's if ya need them. Don't have any Military...Mushroom wrote: ↑Thu Dec 08, 2022 12:18 pmHappy to help!legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Thu Dec 08, 2022 11:24 amNick, you pushed me over the edge and I had to have a couple of these.
