Tuff-ening the Millie?
Tuff-ening the Millie?
Would a 3V titanium Millie Like the Tuff be popular? Would you buy it? How many should be made?
It would be a buy from me

Cool! Can keep the 3v-thingee and sell the ti-c... to refinance Micarta scales.
Re: Tuff-ening the Millie?
I'm in for 3V, but titanium is less attractive for me up here in Alaska. I've had bad experiences with metal handles.

No interest in 3V in folders...that's just leaving performance on the table for no reason. Same with metal handles.

I am a Millie fan. It wouldn’t be my first choice for a configuration but I would buy one. We haven’t had a new Military in so long.

Re: Tuff-ening the Millie?
Hard pass, unless it is the only way to get a new steel in a Military. Then it would sit in its box unused until I could swap the blade into a better handle.

Re: Tuff-ening the Millie?
I would buy a Military in 3v but I would prefer the scales to be G10 or Micarta. I am not much of a fan of Ti scales but at this point I would buy almost any new Military Sal and the Spyderco crew offered.

Re: Tuff-ening the Millie?
The worst event was a winter caribou hunt on Lake Louise. I had two knives with me when I shot my bull: a Master Hunter and a Sebenza. Normally I use a small folder for the gutting process as it’s a nimbler blade but I couldn’t hold the thing even wearing my under gloves because the handle was too cold. Since then I never really carry a metal-scaled knife in winter, which is like 7 months out of the year here.

I like the 3v blade but would prefer g10. Micarta would be great too but I find g10 to have better grip
Re: Tuff-ening the Millie?
A 3V (or AEB-L) Military Model with G10 and liner-lock is a definite buy for me.

I think I'd rather see a 3v Police 4. Back lock and g-10, rather than liner lock and titanium.

Re: Tuff-ening the Millie?
A Delta 3V Millie would be a grail for me. But G10 or Micarta would be my preference.
The recent Tuff exclusive being in Cruwear lost its magic. The Tuff was a sought after knife originally for the 3V blade in my opinion. When they got rid of that it was destined to fail. It became just an oddly designed expensive knife.

Thanks for sharing this story, I wouldn't have guessed that the cold metal could pierce through underglovesMFlovejp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 4:10 pmThe worst event was a winter caribou hunt on Lake Louise. I would be intetested in any new millie.
Ive heard in extremely cold temps that bare metal will stick/freeze to exposed skin. Of course if its that cold and you dont have gloves youve got other problems but... I guess its one more reason not to have a metal handle. Maybe you took the gloves off just for a moment then grabbed the knife or something.Araignee wrote:Thanks for sharing this story, I wouldn't have guessed that the cold metal could pierce through underglovesMFlovejp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 4:10 pmThe worst event was a winter caribou hunt on Lake Louise. We learned early on to never lick any metal when it's freezing.

Re: Tuff-ening the Millie?
The undergloves are just some thinner wool ones I wear under my mittens. Normally they do just fine for the gutting process, after which I'll drag the caribou back to camp with the snowmachine and we'll quarter it by the fire. I'm not sure what the temp was exactly, but it was below zero for sure. My current favorite folder for field dressing a deer or caribou is a ZDP Delica with a nice pointy tip added. For the task of cutting around the hind parts and opening the belly I like a small agile blade with an acute edge and tip. The FRN scales on the Delica are also nice and warm.
