Weird lines on blade

#1

Post by Revival »

Hey Guys/Gals

I recently received a Chaparral Lightweight. Only thing it has cut so far, is couple slices into phone book paper. Carried it a few times but not used during those times,

Last night I noticed some weird lines on one side of the blade. Extremely curious what could have caused this? Would love to hear what you guys think. Thanks!

That just looks scratched to heck and back. Did you have anything in that same pocket? Loose change or something?

Not at all. I always carry on my right side and only other thing I might have in the same pocket is my phone. But phone usually goes in right side pocket so the knife is isolated. Carry all my knives on the right side and this is the only knife with these markings.

Any chance it could be water/sweat stain?

Do you feel something when you drag your nail thru it?
Does it feel like scratches embedded in the steel!?

Steel eating worms burrowing into the blade. I've never seen that one before. Something got in between handle and blade is my actual guess

I tried wiping it off multiple
times including using Flitz but it didn’t work.

Haha. I just hope the worms don’t get to my other knives. If it’s just cosmetics, I’m not worried about it. I’m just more curious.

Haven’t carried coins in years and when I did, it was always in my back pocket or I throw them in my wife’s purse…haha.

But say a coin did get in there, how would it create those lines with the knife closed?

Haha yeah. I’m just more curious how it happened or what created it.

You were struck by lightning and your Chaparral Lightweight absorbed the energy and left you unfazed.

It looks like someone sold you a previously used knife.

Best answer yet. :zany

Hard to imagine coins marking up a blade. Congrats on the Chap, an awesome knife!

But I think maybe Doc Dan is right.

It is a tossup between that and the steel eating worms burrowing into the blade. C'est la vie. :cheap-sunglasses

Does there happen to be a small notch ground into the spine? Different from the jimping. Perhaps it is a factory second? Hard to tell from the picture, but do the lines/scratches go down onto the edge bevel? To me it looks as though they stop at the shoulder. Are you the first owner? And has it been sharpened?

But how can some coin scratch a 62 HRC XHP blade on a Chap?
