Spyderco sells at msrp because they are the manufacturer. That’s their choice to do so in order to not undercut their distributors and retailers. Neither I, nor most would find fault with that.SSD_777 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 5:23 amPeople go to Bento for knives that are out of stock everywhere else and pay full MSRP. Spyderco.com charges full MSRP, are they "rapey" too?Rinzler wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 10:39 pmComparing any BBS price against another retailer for a similar item is going to skew heavily toward the non-BBS retailer appearing to be a good deal (independent of whether or not it is actually a good deal or acceptable price to consumers). BBS is where you go when you’re looking to get rapey priced items.PStone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 6:51 pmI get it. I’m just saying that if you compare MSRP it is only $5 extra. And that the previous Elmax PM2 was sold for $20 more than the current discounted prices. But you’re right and the comparison isn’t the same.
Still though, just a $24 surcharge over the stock version is still a great price for an Elmax PM2. They have been so hard to come across as long as I have been into Spydercos that I am pretty excited.
What I have issue with are retailers who have the ability to sell at lower MAP than full retail, yet they choose to sell at rapey prices. As someone else noted, I wouldn’t even blink if a retailer choosing to do business in such manner goes bankrupt.
The great thing about this country is our ability to do what we want within reason. BBS can choose to sell at whatever price they want, and I can choose to never buy from them and actively dissuade others from doing so while promoting more ethical retail establishments.

I'm a firm believer in laissez faire capitalism and think if any item, whether a PM2, a case of ammo, a car, or a house, is in high demand and supply is low, a seller can shift the price up to increase their profit. The sole purpose of any business is to make money. If the market will support the price increase and sales continue, the price is fine. If the market doesn't and sales drop, then the price is high.
If someone doesn't want to buy at that price, the solution is easy - click on past it for a better deal. Denigrating a business that is essentially operating under the economic model that drove this country to the forefront of the global economy in the 20th century makes me scratch my head.
High demand + low supply = high price
Low demand + high supply = low price
Welcome to life...

Re: Bladeops Upcoming Elmax Exclusive
Hmmmm, I thought this one would hang around like the KJ grinch.
Would be interesting to know how many were produced. Seems like the BO version likely had a small number

Whew! So glad to hear that it's OOS. I don't need / want another PM2, but the Elmax was compelling. Considered selling another PM2 Sprint to fund, but glad that others got them instead.
Hope all who wanted one got one, and will use the heck out of it!

Re: Bladeops Upcoming Elmax Exclusive
This one was really tempting for me, since I love my old BBS Elmax PM2. The performance is good but I also enjoy the uniqueness. Hopefully the majority of people who wanted one got in.
The big turn off for me on this one is I do not personally want to support the model of giving such short notice to consumers.

Re: Bladeops Upcoming Elmax Exclusive
What other folders has Spyderco offered in Elmax other than the PM2 BBS & BO exclusives?

Re: Bladeops Upcoming Elmax Exclusive
There seems to have been interest in Europe’s near-equivalent of S30V performance. While the exclusive didn’t set a record, it did sell out in 13 hours. Other exclusives have been far more sluggish.
I wonder how many sold, and was it the complete run?
