DLT black & red zome Endela dropping Sept. 14
Re: DLT black & red zome Endela dropping Sept. 14
I've seen examples of the zome pattern before, but thought it had to do with zombies.

I would be lying if I said zombies and camouflage were not the first things that came to my mind.

True. Just was looking at my friends Endela (green/brown) which was one of the first Zomes ever to be released and the pattern then was completely different. I don’t mind the polka dots but would have preferred the first series style.

I saw it on the Spyderco app, but so far I haven't found a link on the DLT website.z1r wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 9:28 amGot a link?steelcity16 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:50 amLooks like a TiCN version is coming next week! Guess I'll be getting one of those too!

Thanks for the info.
Re: DLT black & red zome Endela dropping Sept. 14
I know a lot of people like it, but why DLC a stainless blade? I have never liked DLC over much and on stainless... I just don't get it.
Is it something more than tacticool that I just don't understand?

Lol, I almost posted the same comment. I scratch my head when I see coated SS blades, personally don't get it, but understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I see it from a functional point of view, SS unlike Carbon Steel, shouldn't need coating. I guess for others though, that's doesn't matter, the aesthetics trump redundancy. Truth be told, I'm not even that much of a fan of coated non-stainless blades. I just don't like the way the coating scratches off with use.
But I like the Endela, so....

Below are benefits of DLC coating;
DLC coatings are environmentally friendly and can be used to reduce friction, wear, fretting, galling and corrosion. They can also be used to modify electrical conductivity and wettability.
Obviously corrosion resistance isn't an issue for the stainless blades, so replace that one with tactical look

Re: DLT black & red zome Endela dropping Sept. 14
I'd assume most dealers do it because it is popular, and it is popular mainly because people like the way it looks. It doesn't necessarily make every DLC knife "tacticool", but certain combos just look plain cool with a black blade. I mean there is no functional reason to put black dye polka dots on a perfectly good pair of red scales, but dealers must think people like it (my sense is that most people don't like zome).
I believe I read that Spyderco first started using DLC when they had a contract from the military and they wanted coated blades to eliminate reflections from the sun that could give away their position.

Ticn is the coating on Seki knives, dlc comes on golden models. One of the current advantages of the blacked out models is the coated hardware. Yes, 20cv has great corrosion resistant properties, but does the hardware? That extra protection is something nice. And while 20cv has better corrosion resistance than K390, it is not H1 level rust proof. Plus some folks like the blacked out appearance for whatever aesthetic reason catches their eye.
Lc 200n brought about a great change in most salt knives, coated hardware for all, not just blacked out models.

Re: DLT black & red zome Endela dropping Sept. 14
There are a lot of these and the first Endela left. I can't help but think that if they would have done the Endela in the OD Green/TiCN Cruwear combo it would have sold out in a week or two just like the Delica and Dragonfly. Zome
(and smooth G10 for any dealers reading this) seem to kill exclusives. And 20CV is one that has become just your average stainless "supersteel" now with tons of knives having been done in it as well as their M390 and CTS-204P equals. Cruwear/Z-Wear/PD-1 is still pretty rare and tends to drive sales more for the time being. 4V and especially 3V would probably be an even better driver of sales. AEB-L as well given it's popularity in the fixed blade world and rarity in folders.
