Throwback Thursday Carry

#1

Post by Holland »

Figured it could be fun to start carrying discontinued knives on Thursdays.

It would be a good way to keep old favourites relevant and show off some vintage gems if you have them!

I'm going to start with the GB1 tomorrow.

Nice! I had a GB1 out last night trying to decide between it and the GB2 for today's carry. I went with the GB2. Maybe the GB1 tomorrow? If not the GB1 I have several disco'd models I can carry

Maybe I'll bust out the Navigator, or Mariner, or Blackhawk, or old school Native?

The G10 Navigator is one of my favorite small knives. Maybe I'll dig it out of the drawer and carry it tomorrow.

I’m going with two. I should have all the bases covered with these. ;)

I carry my Goddard LW or micarta most days. Such an amazing model! Don’t know why it doesn’t get more love. But good for me as it keeps secondary market prices reasonable.

Man I love this idea, but I'll have to live vicariously through you old timers. I think the oldest Spydercos I have at this point only date back to 2019!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

In.

Was recently reminded by some posts here that I have a Caly 3.5 Super Blue. :bug-white

How this model ever got discontinued is beyond me, as is my failure to grab one in vg10 when they were still around. 🤦‍♂️

The model in general isn't discontinued but this version is...

↑ Pics don't do that one justice!

Native 5 Fluted Ti was kind of grail for me when I first found Spyderco. I took a drive over to House of Blades in Fort Worth (great place!) to see some knives in person. They had a Native 5 Fluted Ti in a display case near the front door and it was love at first sight. I ended up buying one when they went on sale after they made the discontinued list.

i went a different route today. i actually meant to carry my early 90's ladybug (my first pocket knife), but i am carrying my first nice knife (zt0350) instead. i haven't carried this one in years since my preferences steered away from assisted flippers. i'd forgotten how great this knife is in hand what a great knife it is overall.

still carrying my caribbean too though. i don't mind carrying a plain edge knife, but i'll always at least have a full se spyderco on me. :)

I went a different way as well today, but stayed in the :bug-white-red family.

Heck, almost all of the Spydercos I'll have on me on any given day are either discontinued models or prototypes. Burgundy Micarta Jester, Kiwi, and Stretch see the most pocket time but a Centofante Memory, Kopa, Micro Dyad, full size Dyad, and prototype CF Chaparral all see occasional use.
