Throwback Thursday Carry
Re: Throwback Thursday Carry
^ Those models with the cutouts look so nice, but with the way lint accumulates in my pockets, I would fret all the time about keeping them clean.

Re: Throwback Thursday Carry
I'm seeing some pretty recent "throwbacks" in this thread! However they are very pleasing to look at.

The one that got away. I settled for a Mantra 2 recently, but I’d rather have a Mantra 1.

I sometimes regret that I didn't have any disposable income during the Golden Age of Spyderco, but then again, the hunt for pre-loved older models is exciting in its own way
I've never even seen or held a Mantra 2 in person, but I must say that the Mantra 1 is very fine. Maybe they will bring it back as a sprint in the future with improvements to the bearings and flipper action. MIne is a so and so flipper, and I often use the thumbhole for deployment instead.

I never understood why the C22 Michael Walker wasn't more popular. I think it would do better today, maybe with an FRN handle and wire clip. IMO, it out-Dragonflys the Dragonfly, with a lot more edge in the same length handle and, for me at least, an even more comfortable handle. However, if recreated today with the same Walker lock, it would lose the weight battle to the Dragonfly. If recreated with a back lock, it wouldn't really hold to the spirit of the C22. But it would be a downright awesome little knife!

What a beauty , nice to see this post . Your C22 appears to be the first run which had the shiny CF , and on the blade it should have three names , Walker , Spyderco and Klotzli. It was hard to make out on the blade but scales should confirm my guess . A very close friend has maybe every variation of the Walker design and I have handled them over the years . They are incredibly smooth to open , like glass . I always passed on them being a lefty but I admire the workmanship immensely. Thank you for sharing . Re: Throwback Thursday Carry
Dan, you are exactly right: Walker, Spyderco, and Klotzli arrayed in an oval, with the words "Swiss Made ATS-34" in the middle. Mine is #262 of 1165, of the C22CF variant. In terms of miles, this is by far my most-carried knife, since it was my office and airline knife from sometime in 1995 until Sept 11, 2001. I flew extensively on company business, so lots of miles. You can see that the anodization is worn from the pivot screw. Same with the clip. With CF scales, all Ti hardware, and ATS-34 steel, this was hot stuff when it was released in 1994. I bought mine from a vendor called Bladerunner, at a Fort Worth gun show.

Re: Throwback Thursday Carry
Thank you for sharing your history with this piece. It’s what I call a forever knife , too many memories to ever let it go . I have two cousins that were into flying . The father was an architect and built is own two seater in the family home before moving to Florida to retire . His son became a commercial pilot and then went private and was Jimmie Buffet’s pilot for his private plane . I fly occasionally with a long time friend who has a Cessna to check his crops . He once said said he couldn’t believe I would fly with him after totaling a highly modified Chevy2 when we just got out of school . I hope to post a picture of his hangar on the farm sometime it’s a hoot . Dan
