Goldenstone/Duckfoot

#1

Post by Ngati Pom »

I realise Sal and :bug-white-red are working on a 30° base.
But I recently downloaded shapr3d a design app because I have had an idea that has been niggling away since I got a BY200 Duckfoot. Getting the Goldenstone reignited my thoughts around this.
It's regarding a way to change the angles available for the Duckfoot /Goldenstone.
ImageImage
A question I have for all Goldenstone users is what angles other than 20°/40° would you use?
For myself 15°/30°and 25°/50° cover most of my needs for a portable 'fixed' angle sharpener.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

15/30 for me would be great. I tend to use my Goldenstone more for touch ups anyway so the 20/40 has worked fine for that purpose but if they do another run of the Duckfoot in CBN I would want the ability to do 15/30 as well as 20/40.

Yeah I could go along with that myself. I love to experiment with and to do serious tune ups with my GOLDENSTONE. And if they brought back the Duckfoot unit in CBN it would be a "must have" to add to my huge collection of sharpening tools.

They've been working on the base unit for the GOLDENSTONE for some time now and I've been wondering when we will finally hear the news of it being available.

The 30 degree stand is now in-house and we just received the CBN Duckfoot. Trying to decide on a new name.

Surely it’s a cubic foot? ;)

Thanks for the update Sal. Is it ok if I ask if the CBN foot is production ready or a prototype?
Thank you David and JD for your feedback. The idea I have been working on allows for two angles on a single base.
I haven’t bothered with the 20 degree standard setting as you don’t need a base to achieve that.
I would be willing to pm images to you both if you would be interested?

Great News. Because to be honest the original Diamond Duckfoot that I bought back around 2011 is starting to get some wear on it. I'm really anxious to test drive this CBN unit. I do remember the late, great Cliff Stamp telling me once that he thought the CBN stones cut just a little more uniformly by comparison. I'm also anxious to see how it will take on a really beat up SE blade.

Keeping up with all of Spyderco's new Sharpening gear is almost like trying to keep up with their cutlery pipeline.

Me too, do you know if it follows the same format as the byrd Duckfoot, with the open frame?
