Caly 3 & 3.5 LW

#1

Post by Bolster »

Any news on the rumored Caly 3 (or 3.5) lightweight?

With screw construction?

Any of you folks keeping your powder dry for this potential jewel?

This is one of my most anticipated knives. Caly 3.5 specifically. I just hope it comes in an interesting steel.

I think it’s switched to Taichung as well.

I was hoping we'd see that 3.5 by now. There is a slip joint version in the works, too.

I would love to get this. The heinnie Haynes ukpk has been my most used knife over the last year, and a locking version would be nice.

This.

It's such a perfect design and I think the only Spydie that even beats the disco'd Stretch 1 when it comes to cutting edge to handle ratio in Spydetcos that still have a finger choil.

And for my personal preference FRN is always better than G10..
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

So...was the original hint from Sal about the new LW Caly, specifically about the 3 or the 3.5, or did he specify? I don't recall... I'd be more likely to carry a 3, but I'd snap up the 3.5 just the same...I've learned that larger FRN knives carry like smaller G10/Linered knives...

Isn’t there a thread that mentions screw together construction for the forthcoming Manix LW and both sizes of Caly? My usually (ha!) razor sharp memory is drug addled following a bike accident but I think I saw that somewhere.

We're also retooling the Caly 3.5 LW to be screw construction, again, due to your requests.

There is a Caly 3.5 LT WT in-the-works. We're modifying to accept screw construction.

Currently we're working with the original maker on the Caly 3.5.

So, for sure, the 3.5. Can't find info on the 3. (Changed thread subject to add 3.5)

I'm looking forward to the Caly 3.5 LW. G10 would be my preference, K390 if you want to put a cherry on top, but I will not have a problem picking this up in VG10.

I have been eyeing the current model - CF ZDP-189. They have one at a local military surplus store, and I am willing to pay the markup to the store, but the lock rock was a bit much on the only sample they have.

Anyways, bring it!

The ukpk/caly designs are, in my opinion, flawless. I'll be picking up multiple.

Definitely hoping for the 3" version in a normal run-of-the-mill stainless; save the high-end tool steels/exotic stainless for sprints or something.

Maybe making these more appealing to the masses will allow them to stick around awhile this time around, eh?

Maybe this could be the platform available with a dedicated LHSE model?

One can dream, I suppose.

Sounds like I would definitely pick one up. I've recently been seeing pictures of a heinnie haynes ukpk and would love to pick one up.

I’m hoping that as a LW model we’re going to get colored handles and a steel besides VG 10 or S30V. I will have to see the configuration and price before I jump on board but I am interested.

Once it's first released in vg-10 and/or s30v, of course. ;)

Or maybe spy27? :spyder:

Seki-City treatment

#19

Post by Hopsbreath »

These were originally Moki made if memory serves me correct. Are there any current Spydies coming out of Moki? Is Seki-city taking over production? That’s a slam dunk case for K390 if so! The ZDP and Superblue 3’s I rotate are some of my favorite knives for EDC. I’d definitely be in for a K390.

Not so much a 3.5 though; I wasn’t as fond of that size in the Caly treatment and gave it to my dad. He lost it at a playground with my son — I hope the kid who found it becomes a Spydieholic as a result.

Yes I'd prefer the 3 over 3.5 as well but I'll take whatever they produce.
