The Maintainable LW MagnaManix would be would be worth standing in line for!

I’ll bet it sits in Sal’s pocket looking to for things to cut.

Come on Sal, tell us about cutting and sharpening your mule.

Obviously, the first MagnaCut has to be a Mule Team run of several thousand!

After that, Native5 & Military.

Hats off to Larrin for coming up with the theory and seeing it through to an actual steel (read the full article). I’m most surprised by its corrosion resistance beating 20CV — a tool steel with excellent corrosion resistance — what more can one ask for! Hope you get your just rewards.

Hats off to Spyderco for buying a bunch of MagnaCut.

This makes me wonder if there will be different heat treating options for different models.

Hat's off to you Larrin. I'm carrying a Manix with Magnacut. Very sharp. Took a beautiful edge. Also doing very well in our corrosion test tank, after 10 days. Gonna be fun.

Mr. Sal,
Please....for the love of all that is a Solid, Well built knife......Tell me this Manix doesn't have FRN scales on it!!! :D

When you finish with your testing I'd be Very Happy to take the "TORCH (manix)" and finish up what you've started!!!! ;)

As far as introduction with Spyderco, I'd druther begin with a bunch of Mule Teams so we can get them out to ELU's. And Larrin, Please make sure we your optimal heat treat. It will be Eric's call on models. We did order quite a bit of steel. For me, I think a Para 2 or 3 and a Shaman.

sal

+1 for a shaman magnacut!!

Seeing that the Magna Cut in customs is going for $4k to $6k I gotta pass.
Sorry but there is no knife I am wiling to spend more than $500 on.
If Magna Cut makes it into more mid tech production knives I will consider buying one.

I believe this is due to the steel being fairly new and unavailable for mass production. Some knifemakers got their hand on a bits of Magna Cut and they take advantage of the situation on the market. Once the steel is mass produced and there's enough for the knifemaking companies and the custom makers the "exclusivity" factor will be gone and the prices will go down to a normal level.

I hope so Vanka. I do really like this steel Larrin has had made and trust in his judgement very much. And have a ton of respect for the man. And the knowledge of steel traits he shares with the public has taught me very much. I just don't have the money or credit to collect knives that cost over $500.

I came here to say this. A screw-construction Manix 2 LW is IMO the platform that would best showcut MagnaCut's well-rounded performance profile, since it is, in many ways, Spyderco's most form-follows-function dedicated cutting tool in a pocket folder.

Just how different they are while MagnaCut can achieve high levels as both a tool steel and a very corrossion resistant steel. It makes it more clear when you have them side by side. I've been more apt to use M390/20CV/204P but MagnaCut is very enticing once we see implementations from Spyderco and pricing.

3rds!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
