Comparison of Knife Steels from Niagara Specialty Metals:

If that's true, I'd rather have Cruwear than Magnacut I think - don't particularly care for the extra corrosion resistance.

To each their own. It all depends on what your needs are. Personally, for a small 3” blade length folder EDC, I primarily look at corrosion resistance, followed by wear resistance and finally toughness. So, from that list I start with MagnaCut, 20CV, S45VN & S30V in that order. From those 4, ordering by wear resistance I get 20CV, S30V, S45VN & MagnaCut. Based on just those two criteria I go with my primary choice the past 6-7 years, that is, M390/20CV/204P. Toughness is tertiary criteria for me and if it was higher I’d pick MagnaCut. If MagnaCut is priced between S45VN and 20CV it’ll be a big hit.

Note: I would’ve liked to see LC200N on that chart.

Hi, I'm a knife enthusiast living in Japan. I found this great forum and topic, so I'm posting.
I love my police model4 K390 and will buy at least two magnacut police when they are released.

Hello and welcome!

That Police 4 in K390 is very appealing. :bug-red

I'd be happy with either Cruwear or MagnaCut. If MC sharpens well it could be my only steel, but we'll have to wait until production models are out to really know. Currently Cruwear is my favorite steel as it is very balanced and sharpens easily for me.

Yeah. I have, love, and use the handful of my Salts, but outside of that all I care about is toughness and wear (edge retention).
So.. S30V and M4 looks good to me. I also feel less anxious to get 4V, since I have a few knives in 3V.
Also, it is good to know how advanced S90V and S110V still are (Maxamet is obviously off the charts :-).

Really hoping to see a delica 4 LW here, with liners that are rust proof. No linerless please. And a dragonfly LW! I'd buy a handful of each.

I've posted before but yea I'm changing. Id like to see the PM2 in Magnacut. Not very original I know but I love the PM2 design. It just works for me. And marks all the boxes.

Pretty sure it's gonna be one of the bestsellers, most likely the PM2.
I've always figured the Delica was the best seller from Spyderco. The PM2 is amazing, but the quality you get for the price of the Delica is hard to beat from a market perspective.

Could also be why the Delica 4 never got updated : because it sells so much in its actual shape.

Agree. Delica is the “everybody” design. Like the story of Goldilocks and the three bears, a Delica is the “just right” bowl of porridge.

Besides a mule I'd definitely want a PM2 or Para 3 in Magnacut.

Cedric and Ada, DBK and BBB have had some good early reviews in the steel. Magnacut seems to hold up really well at a very acute edge angle so the long thin blade stock and fine tip of the PM2 and Military would probably showcase the steel the best for early adopters.

Also, it is what I want... so... yeah... logically, Spyderco should do that. :winking-tongue

Hoping we see a Magnacut Straight Spine Stretch.

That knife is slowly becoming my favorite Spyderco model.

Ditto.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I'd be very happy with a Magnacut SS Stretch!

The numbers on Magnacut are interesting. If I worked in a trade a larger Spyderco in this steel would certainly be a good choice.
