Contest test - Laguiole
Contest test - Laguiole
Hi All,
I thought to try a contest to see if it's a format in which you are interested?
About 25 year ago or so. Ii was working with a Japanese Trading Company, that was starting a new company named Ramco, in an effort to help him launch his business. I was working with a French Canadian custom knife-maker named Dennis Lemaire. A very brilliant and skilled designer and custom maker. He passed some years ago.
The knife that he designed, and we built in Seki City was a Laguoile folder with an Al Mar / Harvey McBurnette front lock. I'm pretty sure that someone can find of picture of it on the web. ( I haven't learned to post pictures :o ).
The Engraving said Ramco on the blade. I designed the "bee" at the front of the handle. In France, on regular Laguoile's, there was some argument about whether or not it was a bee or a fly, which depended on whether or not you liked Napoleon. I chose to make a bee, because; 1) I had been a bee keeper and 2) I thought the bee was more elegant than a fly. It has a leather sheath, but no box. We had to injection mold the handle due to the many beautiful curves, but the mold has long since been gone. Quality is exceptional. It is a little known piece of Spyderco history.
The knife will sell for $150 to the winner, with the check being made out to Children's Hospital in Denver. You only have to post that you are in. We will close the contest on June 30th. Only one entry per person please. We will print and cut up the entries. They will be folded and put into a box. Gail will select the name from a box and she will post the winner. Yes, I'll blindfold her. :)

The Laguiole is a beautiful knife, I would be honored to have one in my collection! This is a very generous contest, Sal. Thank you for the opportunity. :spyder:

I'm in, mostly for the cause. It wasn't the Children's hospital, but my oldest son was a premie and spent 8 weeks in Presbyterian St. Luke's in Denver. It's hard to think of a more worthy cause.
