Show off your 3d Printed Spyderco Mods/Creations!

#1

Post by Paraguy »

After seeing several inspiring 3d printed mods/creations scattered around on here I've decided to create a dedicated topic for them. I hope this can also be a resource for less experienced printers like myself and maybe be an inspiration to Spyderco fans considering getting a 3d printer. Let's see what you'll have been up to!

Was that the file I sent you? If so it printed way better than my printer. I think I need to mess around with scaling because resin shrinks when curing.

I did have to bore out the inside a little with my dermal tool. But besides that id say it printed pretty good. I used a Anycubic Mega Zero 2.0.

It seems orientation matters in sla printing along with resin shrinkage. I'm going to try another print to see if it comes out better. The first one I got working is still going strong.

Great topic, I am curious what you guys came up with.
I only printed a backspacer for my Para 3 but it broke not so long after, so I got a titanium one.

I made a block that holds a sharp maker rod. For cheapskates like me that just buy single rods and want to clamp them in a vise. I don’t have a photo handy but it’s up on thingiverse.

One of our fellow forum members sent me this beauty the other day. I've touched up 3 knives on that 35 degree setting, hit the sweet spot on those knives where the regular Sharpmaker base would not.

I'm sure I have a bunch more that I haven't reprofiled yet that will have the same results. Very grateful for this already!

Looks great and I assume it great increases function. I really hope Spyderco takes notice!

Will the 3d file be released?

Yes when I think its good enough. The knife has a few issues because it was never designed for the cage. With a plastic cage it needs to maintain a certain thickness or it's too weak. The Q-ball needs some chamfering on the inside of the liners to give the cage a little more room. If the cage is made from metal it would be strong enough without those modifications. When I get around to it I'll put any updates in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=90032

I think someone else posted up the link to this knife sharpener on Thingiverse earlier in the thread, but I printed one off, put most of it together a while ago and finally finished it up for my dad for Father's day. Turned out pretty well, seating the threaded inserts properly is the trickiest part of the build and I actually had to scrap a sharpener body because I messed up an insert.

Image

Finally got my hidden lanyard hole mule scale files uploaded to Thingiverse, included files for smooth texture, solid hex texture and hex outline texture.
