Enuff XL
I saw the video where Eric was talking about this. Looks great/ He said it would be H1. Why? Why would they not do LC200N for the plain edge at least. Why if introducing a new model would they use a now outdated blade steel? I have heard that serrated H1 is superior but not in plain edge.
Re: Enuff XL
I really don't think I'd call H1 outdated. I think they'll end up making it in both H1 and LC200N if the sales are there, it's happening with the other Salt models already.

Re: Enuff XL
Outdated? Who says so? H1 is a great "steel". It can easily live alongside of LC200N.Cricket Bite wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 8:08 amI saw the video where Eric was talking about this. I was a bit disappointed with the H1 announcement also, but I think it makes sense as a fisherman's knife now. I wanted more of a woodsman's knife out of this to take hiking, so I'd have preferred VG-10 or better yet a tool steel.
It might just make sense to get a serrated h1 blade.

Re: Enuff XL
i seriously doubt the example in the video is h1 because it's flat ground. my guess is that eric was saying it'll be offered in h1, but maybe not exclusively. either way, se h1 is absolutely good to go and i'd like it in a vehicle carry fixed blade. i'd prefer a plain edge in a different steel for most fixed blade duties though.

Re: Enuff XL
I had the same thought of why in the world go for an H1 PE instead of LC200N for a salt water dedicated fixed blade?
I kind of suspect that a LC200N Enuff XL would probably be too close to their existing Waterway, and would scavenge sales. At first blush, I'd guess that the Enuff will be cheaper than the Waterway as well (Pinned FRN Slab construction), and it doesn't make sense to set up too close of a competition between two of your own offerings.
Also, isn't H1 a modified, cold worked version of 302 or 304? I've heard that LC200N is pretty expensive to produce and procure, so that will probably add to the price advantage as well. If it wasn't specifically meant to be a Salt series knife, there are of course a ton of steels that would have been better.

Re: Enuff XL
The wording was this will be a salt version.
I will take that to mean this will be available as a salt version also. I would assume they would do a vg10 version as well.

As soon as I saw it in the video I said I want to try it! When I heard H1 I said I'm not interested unless I should want one in a SE. I'm not a big fan of LC200N PE edge retention given all of today's alternatives (I am mostly dry environment and take care of my blades). I'd take PE VG-10 but would prefer better for edge holding and I'm ok with stainless and non stainless. Bring on the exclusives and I'm in for multiple purchases.
Great job Spyderco - I think a strong step towards finding your high sales volume general purpose fixed blade while coexisting as a salt model as well.

Re: Enuff XL
This in a high hollow SE H1 and Spyderco may have found another weakness in my purchasing defense
Re: Enuff XL
Of course the Enuff XL is a different knife, but there is the Waterway with at least some similarities, roughly the same size and in LC200N...cycleguy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 9:23 amAs soon as I saw it in the video I said I want to try it! Re: Enuff XL
I would expect the larger Enuffs to mirror what is offered in the current Enuff selection. I could be wrong, of course, but that’s my expectation.

Are we certain that blade isn't just a prototype in a random cheap steel?

Re: Enuff XL
of course that's possible, but it seems weird they'd test a knife in a steel they aren't offering it in. it may be cheaper, but it wouldn't yield accurate test results. i would assume it would be offered in vg10 too. or maybe k390 if it's successful enuff.

Are they really testing it or is it still in prototype stage where it's more about testing ergonomics and customer reaction?

as i said above, i don't really see the need for a se h1 fixed blade except as an emergency knife to keep in my vehicle. it would make a nice dive knife too, but i don't dive and my h1 pac salt or caribbean handle my aquatic activities.
a pe lc200n version would be great as an all around edc and woods knife because of the low maintenance and easy of sharpening without specialized tools. i've been asking for a flat ground lc200n salt enuff for a while now, even in the current size.
if it was strictly an edc fixed blade, a harder wearing steel like k390 might be nice for those that enjoy them.

yeah, i purposely kept my guesses to steels they currently use in regular production there already. there are plenty of others they could use from exclusives and sprints too though.kennethsime wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 3:03 pmSince K390 is already in Seki, maybe this is a possibility.
