It is softer. IIRC 65 for ZDP and 63 for K390? ZDP must be one of the most brittle steels out there.

K390 does have some similarity to ZDP189 but unless your sawing bricks I don't think the teeth will chip off. I am most likely the biggest complainer of chipping, just put a huge chip in my ATR 2 yesterday. I guess my want for a serrated Police supersedes the steel, I rather have a good stainless. I will most likely complain latter...

This is the Police 4 I have been waiting for. Fantastic.
Same here. Great knife in one of my favorite steels and now we will be able to get it with teeth! Definitely looking forward to this one!
Very exciting. I do not need this knife, but I want this knife.

Was this ever any different as soon as you have been owning your first or lets say at a max first two Spydies...? ;)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Depends on how you look at it. If corrosion resistance is important then definitely not. Overall beefiness will also be debatable. Slicing superiority may be going to the P4, we'll see.

I see "coming soon" labels at dealers' websites, but is there any exact estimated release date?

Anyone else stalking all the dealers sites to see if these are available yet or just me?

Yep! I looked just yesterday!! :D

I got an email on Wednesday with an update on my preorder. It just said that they are still processing my order but it isn’t complete yet.

Yeah I got the same email. Now that the Resilience isn't getting full SE this one is even more important for me.

I can't help wanting this even though it is a bit out if my normal zone. My range is sort of between Native and Gayoe Bradley 2. I want a step up from the SE vg10 Endela in regards to serrations and while I've been trying to decide between a Pacific LC200n and a Carribean this THING keeps popping up.

Is it not the most extreme iteration of a serrated blade? The ultimate serrated performer? I think I have to buy it just because of this.

(I'm probably still gonna get the Pacific for running but that's another thing...)

Depends on how K390 performs, but it'll probably be great either way. You could also get a smaller knife, I'm pretty sure the Eldela is getting the same steel in SE too.

Do you think the standard brown rods on the SM will be able to handle this? Or will we have to upgrade to CBN or diamond rods?

if you want to repofile you may find the CBN/diamond rods helpful, but no they are not necessary. for me, the brown rods will do just fine im sure (although I do own either the CBN or the diamond, I don't remember which I ones I bought the second time around)

edit* to clarify, I don't normally reprofile my SE blades, I just touch them up repetitively every so often to keep them sharp and it happens over time. im lazy.

They will sharpen K390 serrations but will take an eternity to reprofile.

D and prndltech,

Thanks!! If I pick once up, I would plan on just keeping the serrated edge sharp on the SM. I wouldn’t plan on reprofiling. Thanks for getting back to me!

Sure thing.

Thats my approach with serrated blades. I touch em up often so its always sharp and its never been a problem for me.
