That's where I Found the gentleman with this one. I have been all over Reddit, weighing my options, while I decide if this is something I "need."

Hey sparty, just now happened to see your pm, sorry! Will reply soon!
Appreciate it. It might be a moot point, as I don't think I'm considering a Buck as of now.

Sent! :)
And as said there: For your ONLY knife for general EDC ("bushcraft", construction,...) the Chap is too small imho.
And the handle, though good for what it is, not too well suited for prolongued use.

As an ONLY knife for "harder" tasks I´d really get something larger. You want a backlock, so Endela, Endura, Stretch, RockJumoer, Pac Salt... all would be good choices
In that role I personally would even take a Delica over the Chap (but not the Native)

But again: As backup / secondary / small task knife: The Chap is great
K390 Endura and a chap. Good combo.

You can find these for under 100. They also come in s30v for the same price but full flat ground. This one's d2 (which is probably better for bush crafting.) https://www.dlttrading.com/enzo-birk-75 ... as-micarta

The Chap is a great little knife but not for hard-use. Apart from its very thin edge, extended force will surely raise hot spots.

With his mid-lock requirement, the OP is not (yet) in Spyderco’s market.
TRUE.

It’s mentioned in post #7

This is another Spyderco I was totally unaware of. I’m sure a lot of thought went into its design and that it’s very functional in its intended role, but it wasn’t very visually appealing, at least not in pictures. And S30V isn’t the first steel that springs to mind when I think of a bushcraft knife. I’m not a steel nerd, so I might be wrong about that, and probably is, but I’m sure a lot of semi-initiated knife dudes like myself would think along those lines.
Now I’m not sure how this model performed for spyderco, but I suspect that being all about performance some times gets in the way of their success. I think a slightly more classic bushcrafty visual expression and a steel that caters more to the biases of the target demographic would sell more knives without necessarily ruining its usability. Just a thought.

Ray Mears helped to design it.
