Top 3 favourite fixed blade spydies

#1

Post by malice »

So a question I asked recently, got me thinking: what's your top 3 spyderco fixed blades ( axes, kitchen and Varia included ) and why ?

For me it's quite easy:
3) South Fork: beautiful, flexible in its utility, but I'm always a bit afraid of losing it/ breaking it.
2) Aqua salt: no fear of rust, and that shape just cuts great !
1) Bow river: cheap enough that I'll lend it to my friends or modify without worry, but with a good enough sheath (even though I made a kydex for IWB/Scout carry), a great handle and a great design.

Bill Moran drop point. Excellent knife for deer. I've had mine since before they started putting holes in fixed blades and intend to keep it forever. Its not my favorite knife of all time but it is very effective as a game/hunting knife.

Sprig. Slim, trim, and thin edge with S90V. I just plain like this one.

Bow River. Excellent design and value. I'd love to see this one in an upgraded steel someday, but as it is this is still a great knife.

My real top choice is the Mule, because of the nature of the project. The chance to test new steels is my favorite characteristic in a fixed blade. :)

Not counting Mules, I'd say;
1. Sprig
2. South Fork
3. Province

1. Serrata. Fits my hand like a custom made just for it, cuts amazingly well for being such a thick slab of steel.

2. Street Beat. Great EDC size and style.

3. Temperance 2. I never got my hands on one before they were discontinued, but man it looks great.

1. Temperance 2 - my all time favorite
2. Sprig - mine is .008 behind the edge and slices like mad. Great handle.
3. Serrata - love the handle and blade shape

And a runner up for my top 3 list is the Proficient. S90V blade and a great handle. Pretty pricey though, and the sheath is just okay.

But the MBS-26 Carving knife gets the most use by far.

I have too many custom knife maker fixed blades or purpose made/bought to have that many production fixed blades.,

Mule

Junction
The Junction is probably the most enjoyable knife I wish I had years before. Bought it when it was being discontinued and became my favourite fixed blade for a year.

I really need to set a reminder or something, because I always just miss them.
